Hello all In a real dilemma with my bike and would really appreciate some help! Got a 1098S which ive owned for two months - the bikes done 7,500 mileswith full main dealer history. A little while back the engine management light came on giving error 10.2 (horizontal ignition coil) and the bike rode fine for a few days. It then started spluttering and finally ran on one cylinder, was stalling all over the place. I had the bike serviced and plugs replaced, and it all ran fine for about 2 weeks. Now the light has come back on and the bike is spluttering, running on one cylinder some times and stalling all over the place. What can this be? should i replace the horizontal ignition coil? the reason i ask is when the bike has plugs replaced it was fine for a couple of weeks and then turned into a dog again. Thanks
Try swapping the coils between the horiz and vert cylinders and see if the fault swaps with them. If it does, it's the coil.
Thanks Derek, Just gone to start the bike now and its not starting? Not even turning over! I can hear the fuel pump whine, the lights come on, and the voltage is 12.5 and treacle charger is saying battery is good?
Fit a new injector/coil/fuel pump relay. It's a sub £2.00 part and causes no end of problems including error codes like you have.
Ok brilliant ill try that! Are these relays the oem relays? They cause this many problems? Thanks mate
You need a 12v 4 pin micro relay. They are a cheap part from the ducati dealer but most people source them off ebay for under £2. The relays are on the right side of the battery box. There are two. The front one is for the fans and the rear for the injectors/coils/fuel pump
Cheers! I understand that these can get corroded by moisture, whats the best thing to use to make sure this doesnt happen apart from not using a jet wash?
If the relay is on its way out, would it cause tempremental issues with the ignition and the bike spluttering? I was thinking if the relay is gone, would it not have stopped the coils, pump and injectors to not function at all?
Took the fairing off on battery side yesterday and cant see the relay's anywhere! The fuse box is there to the right of the battery but where are the relays? Ta!
i was having a couple of intermittent running faults. v.occasional miss fire the odd mill light flicker. cutting out. didnt think it would be the relays but went for it anyway. it appears to be sorted. gonna change these things every year now. not expensive.
They are attached to the right hand side of the battery box, towards the rear of the bike. Probably hiding behind some of the cabling.
The hand is by the front right of the battery box. The relays are on the right hand side. They may be hidden by the hoses. 848 engine management light | Ducati Forum
