Curious... 600 Miles In One Day?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by freshage, Aug 13, 2014.

  1. My mate Andy rode his ST4S back from WDW to Essex overnight - 1016 miles in 18 hours!

  2. Try it on an OEM seat on a Guzzi LeMans.....

.....at least I had the custom seat for Lake Como.

  3. Love that Alps route, definately got my eye on doing that one. 600 miles in a day is definately doable if you get a move on and dont mind being at 'enthusiastic' speeds.

  4. I was just thinking that, If you do it in bite sized chunks you'll find time flys by.

For example you could probably squeeze 150miles per tank, the rule of thumb we use when riding 500 miles to the Nurburgring in one day is have a break every hour.

So if you travel at 150mph you've only got to stop 3 times if you start with a full tank

That's math and therefor FACT :)

  5. No problem. I rode Toulon to Calais in one day last year. Left Toulon at 7.00am and was checking in at 6.00pm.
    1 3/4 coffee & choc o pain. then repeat a few times.

  6. Easy ! I used to ride up to my home in Scotland approx. 550miles on my 998s, meet my mates for a ride out, a night on the beer. Then a Track day at Knockhill and then ride back to Purley ready for work on Monday morning. Slightly stiff (knees) but happy.

  7. That sounds epic :D

  8. I know right! I'm thinking it will take me 5 days, 250'ish miles a day. Nice and easy going. It's going to be one hell of a route!

  9. Yeah, you CAN do it. Question is whether you have to 'cos you shouldn't WANT to! I've done 725 miles (Annecy to Bridgend) on a Harley V-rod and Cannes to Calais (737 miles) on a Multi so it def can be done but it WILL be boring and you WILL be knackered. If you can, take two days, stay off the motorway and enjoy the ride!

  10. I have also went to Mugello on the 998s with two stays at hotels on the way ( major piss up all the way over and back) . The ducati with termi's on through the tunnels sounds awesome. Not sure what bike you are on , but it'll fun anyway.

  11. Didn't see the Muli part in first post:Watching:.

  12. I once did 1,000 miles in 24 hours (midday to midday), but that was in a car. 550 miles in a day is as much as I can do on a bike, thank you very much.

  13. rode back to reading from barcelona in one hit on a zx9r and also did 565 miles on a zx10r in one hit easily done on a multi but id go country route over 2 days and save all that toll money and it'll be so much better, if you are going tour on motorways you are going to miss a lot of the stuff you normally remember on such trips , I'm off next week but getting boat to bilbao and then 10 days to get home 4 days pyrenees , 2 days millau tarn gorge , annecy then freiburg each one day then nurburgring then home on tunnel

  14. you can.
    why?
    lifes too short.
slow down, divert and smell the flowers/meet the locals - enrich your life.

  15. Yep, it can be done, I did Southampton to Munich in 1 day via Calais, something like 770 miles in the day started at 5am and safely tucked up in my hotel by 7.30pm.

Make sure you have lots of stops to keep hydrated and stretch your legs for a few minutes each time, it's possible but not much fun unless you have a good reason to do it.

  16. 600 miles easily doable... Back in the 2006 old Ducatisti days we did a 1 day trip to Omaha beach - fantastic ride, fab scenery a completely cool bridge somewhere in France, lunch in a farmhouse style restaurant, a very moving stroll around the graveyards paying our respects and an eirie 666 miles on the odometer of my 749 when I got home in the evening!

  17. We rode 600miles from Freiburg in the Black Forest to bath in one day. It started to rain as we crossed the Vosges and didn't stop. We were knackered at the end, which after a relaxing break was counter productive. I'd advice to break the journey, make it a holiday not an endurance event.
However, in the car we drive Huge distances, we can share the driving and sleep when being passenger, on two bikes there isn't that option.

  18. Easy.. 90mph stop every 2hrs for fuel and stretch. Simple

  19. 500 miles approx, 6ft 4", gsxr1000, with a rucksack on pyrenees to benidorm in 5 hours. I was trapping on a bit though......
I had a test ride on a multi at ducati manchester, it was like being sat on my settee at home and I can do 12 hours on that easy. LOL

  20. Yea, it's insanely comfy. I had a 1098S at the time when I was looking at the Multi... I just didn't want to get off it! It was all the excitement but with the comfort and ease of a tourer. Perfect bike in my opinion.

I will likely bosh out France in one go, then take it easy on the Alps route. At maybe mid way pop down to Milan for a day.
