Still got my 2010 Monster 796, have thought about changing for an evo or SF848, but at the moment sticking with my baby, such a great bike, here in the South of France summer has come early, lucky me.

  2. Great to know you still have yours too, mine in for service this weekend, belts and valves, had a recall on my fuel tank too. Still runs like a dream, I too have looked at the 848SF, ride height being the biggest obstacle for me to get over, literally! cant get on with leathers! Need to grow longer legs!

  3. Ohoo ! Betty, good to hear from you, it's like a school reunion on here, yep the 796 is such great bike, problem is the grass always looks green'er, while there are no evo owners watching it's probably safe to say that there isn't a lot in it other than the adustable front suspension, all that ABS n' Traction Control is for wimps. As for the SF848 it's a horse of a different colour, I wanted to get one so bad but it didn't feel right on the test ride, I guess I'm Monster shaped.

  4. Hello you !! :)

  5. That's a great looking bike and you're right the grass isn't always greener. I sold my mint 749 in a moment of bored madness and have been drooling over the photos of her ever since wondering what sort of state she's in now. Then I bought the M696 and now it's 3 yrs old I'm going through the same thought processes ie changing for the sake of changing. Hopefully I won't be caught out again?

Nice fender extender by the way!

  6. Hi Banus, I remember you from a certain other forum, yeah, it's always tricky when you buy new, do you sell after 2/3 years when you can still get a decent price or do you think sod it I'm gonna keep it. I,ve put mine up for sale and will keep riding until somone wants to buy her, not holding my breath as Ducati's are a very niche market in France.

  7. Although my monster is long gone due to being written off its still missed greatly. Its the bike that saved Ducati so they say. They are timeless because the overall profile doesn't change like the 911.
It would be a very sad day if Ducati ever dropped it from the range. I'm sure the SF was intended to be the new monster if it caught on but again I'm probably wrong.
Ducati have the same predicament the US air force when they started looking to replace the B52. They finally came to the conclusion that the only replacement was another B52 and extended its service life by about 30 years

  8. Is that the DP plexiglas screen on there?
I been looking for aftermarket ones

  9. No, it's the Puig one, comes in clear, smoke and dark smoke, makes quite a difference.

  10. That really is a bike to be proud of, it looks beautiful

  11. Thanks Katie, high praise indeed, funny thing is the photos don't do it justice, they are a bit washed out looking, looks twice as good in the flesh.

  12. Now that is just not fair, living on one of the most beautiful areas of the world and having a beautiful bike

  13. i been looking at the DP one, cant decide if its gong to give a bit more protection than standard?
(failing that might just swap in for a 1098)

  14. Since I got into biking I havn't noticed the natural beauty of the region, too busy scanning the road ahead for the next corner, hehe! seriously though, it's incredible around here, Mountains ,rivers, gorges, waterfalls all linked up by some of the best biking roads in Europe.

  15. The best I can describe it is once you get up above 80 the extra protection takes the wind blast off your chest and directs up over your head, you may need to tuck in slightly, I can happily do a ton with it on even with a head wind, but obviously it's nothing like a fully faired bike.

  16. That's what I'm thinking, on open roads needing a bit more wind protection, heading to WDW in June so thinking of a lot of miles daily

  17. Don't know how much the DP one is , Puig one is 75 quid , you'll need a very small star allen key to do the swap, I seem to remember it being the 2nd smallest key in the set. A few months ago I put clip-ons on the bike and removed the fairing completely, going for a Cafe Racer look, Got up to around 70mph and the wind blast was horrible, there was a slight head wind, now I always have the Puig on.

  18. I feel like I have to hold on for grim death if I take my naked Monster 600 over 85 mph or else I feel like I will be blown off!

  19. Katie, Ducati made a nose fairing for the older style Monsters, I had one on my 695. It worked quite well at higher speeds for me, might be worth a t'internet search for one? I daresay other manufacturers also make suitable/similar fairings.
