Hi I have just bought an 07 SC that is in need of TLC! So much so, I cannot tell what the original finish was on some of the components! Picture below is from the advert however doesn't represent what it looks like now, true Ebay buy! Bike arrived on Saturday and I have started taking it apart! Fuel tank was full of cr@p thanks to a blocked rainwater outlet under the fuel cap. Fork Top - Originally appeared polished, was it anodized or clear coat? Fork lowers / caliper mounts - Dull grey, doesn't appear to have any coating? Oil cooler pipework - Chrome is wrecked, may sand down and paint while I am doing the engine case. New pipes are v. costly. Does it share oil cooler pipes with other DS bikes? Fortunately it came with Ohlins rear shock (and 0 mile oem shock in a box!) same again for the Termi shotguns and oem mirrors so not been ravaged by several winters outside under a cover... Engine cases need doing but there is enough Forum advice about that, just need to drop the motor. Spokes are rotten but Central Wheels have quoted to rebuild on to Stainless spokes. I shall keep you updated with my progress
not really, but enough in it to get good money when tip-top. yellow mono's are pretty desirable and I had been struggling finding a bike to interest me but this has got me...
I rang the seller many times about this bike, i almost made an offer but something told me to view first which I just couldn't manage and the guy wasn't that accommodating. If you bought for what I was prepared to pay I wouldn't worry too much about what wants doing. Personally I would replace with original parts where possible, the engine casings are a different story ! It was a good buy with the ohlins shock, damper, reservoir covers, mirrors, Termi's, handlebar risers etc...you may have to spend a bit but it will be worth it.
tbh more elbow grease than cash is required. He wasnt easy to deal with we barted and finally came to a number. I enjoy a bit or recommissioning and it is a bit different to my old 998S, 999R!
I wouldn't bother trying to refurb your forks, my fork cap are beginning to pit and it annoys me too, better to get a straight replacement set from an ST4/monster/SS as they will be better set up and adjustable, just be patient and a set will come up at a reasonable price. I have a set from an ST4 that I'll get round to fitting at some stage. Same oil pipes as SS1000 and the ST2(I think), you could get hypermotard replacement pipes and run them round the left side of the front cylinder head. If your rebuilding your wheels then stainless spokes are a given, I'd like to hear how long that takes when you do it.
Oh and how are those DP mirrors doing, the chrome on one of mine is beginning to blister but I like them better than my OE ones and they're really hard to find now.
dp mirrors are fecked, well one is proper knackered now i undid the two small screws and thought the glass would pop out! both bubbling, hopefully find alternative mirrors to put on the stalks.
I hope you enjoy the bike, I might be doing a front end change soon, still sourcing some parts, I'm using Showa TiN 3 way and 4 pot calipers, hoping to start it soon
Big bucket of plated bolts all done for princely sum of a tenner...wheels now back from builder all cleaned and s.s spokes fitted. Found a cheap smashed crankcase so i can rebuild the bike and take my time on the engine...at least if it rolls and looks like a Ducati it will keep me spurred on to sort the motor!
