916 Headlight Help

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by bobbyboy, Mar 3, 2014.

  1. Took my new, to me, 1994 916 for an MOT today.
Failed on headlight aim unfortunately. It appears to still have its Euro dipped unit, which aims right, instead of the correct left.
I've found that I can turn the internal unit upside down, which aims it the correct way, but also down, instead of the usual up. I know that this would pass the MOT as it is, but would rather the aim up as well.
This can be fixed by changing the small internal 'deflector' type plate with a different handed one, but they're not available.
Would anyone have a spare UK 'deflector' plate available, in return for some beer tokens? Cheers :upyeah:

  2. If you have the skills to take it apart, you will have the skills to make a new one. It is easy.

  3. CEV are part of the Zardigroup, you could try emailing them to find out where you can obtain parts from. I bought a euro headlamp once from a Ducati dealer and he changed the reflector for me to UK spec free of charge, so they must be available somewhere.

  4. Many thanks everyone for the advice and help so far.
I had a spare hour today, so decided to have a go at making a reverse version of this plate, and it worked out ok!
Lets see if the MOT tester is happy with it now.....

  5. If not, the MOT inspector can just give it a "daylight" MOT, which is basically a normal MOT but with a disclaimer on it saying you can only ride the bike in day light hours. My R1 with its race bodywork & no headlamps/indicators gets this each year.

  6. Hi, I can swap you the UK one for your euro. one if you want! I'm in Spain at moment but will be in UK next week or can post from here. Eddy

  7. Hi Steve R, thanks for that!! but the problem is the ITEUVE (MOT) test here, it won't pass! Well, it did pass for 10 years, but now they have discovered that the lamp is pointing the wrong way!! Eddy

  8. Hi Eddy, thanks for the offer, but mine has a cracked top lug and rear cover, so unless yours has the same issues, you'd be getting the short straw!

  9. Hi bobbyboy, it was just the reflector that I wanted to swap. The metal part inside. Eddy

  10. In that case, if it helps you out, no problem!
I've made a temporary one to sort my issue out, but I guess it would be nice to fit a genuine one.
    I'll PM you my details.

  11. If all else fails I have one that you can have. Came with my headlight glass "donor" unit from Bootsam, also have the dipped beam back plastic cover if yours is cracked.

  12. Hi Gingernuts, many thanks for your kind offer! One of the other members did say that he could help out but it involved swappinp my UK one which I may require at a later dateif I sell the bike in the UK. So, depending on this, I may take you up on offer, if that's ok. Many thanks, Eddy

  13. No problem. If you decide that you want it, P.M. me your address and I'll poppytin the post.

Edit. Just read the above trail again and I 'm a bit confused. The one I have is a UK one like what the original post requested ( I think).

  14. Hi, what I was after was a Euro. spec one. Rob, "Bobbyboy" was after a UK spec. one. If you don't need it maybe he would send me his euro. spec. deflector if you were able to send the UK one to him? Thanks again.
