I am considering buy a 848 evo, I currently ride a streetfighter 848. I'm being really drawn to the 848 evo. What do you think? Opinions please.
Test ride one. I'd probably go for an 899 though. Other than the fairings I bet it's quite hard to tell the difference between the two.
Its the fairing version I'm liking but I'm still 50-50. I do like the way my streetfighter handles. A test ride is in order I think.
They will handle quite differently. The Streetfighter has a longer swingarm for example, potentially more relaxed steering geometry. All I would say is to make sure u get a decent test ride where u can get out for 40-50 miles and really get into it. Some high speed smooth corners and it will soon make sense!! The Evo gearing is too long though IMHO, it's very chuggy at low speed and made better by a smaller front sprocket.
Interesting read and well explained. The 40-50 miler is a good idea and it will test your hands and wrists aching over that time and distance. Thanks for that.
Except let's be realistic, u can pick up a tidy 848 evo for £8000-8500 or a nearly new pre-reg for £9750 Ish, a 899 is going to be £12500 and no, it's not 'THAT' much better.
well phil as with everything in life, its a matter of opinion mate....I DO think the 899 IS that much better, thats not to say i am right and you are wrong buddy....just MY opinion differs from yours
Of course mate, sorry missed a few smileys out of my reply. Totally agree, I think the 899 is a better road bike by a fair chunk by the sounds of it, just that the price has gone up a fair bit. I think an evo corse 'se' would be a good middle ground, has TV/QS and Ohlins rear shock.
I beg to disagree. The 899 is at least a couple of leaps better than my old 848 evo corse SE. And that was brilliant.
It will almost certainly be the next bike for sure, on topic though I'm not sure if u own a streetfighter and your used to it that an 848 (or any focussed sportsbike) will be easy to get on with for 50+ miles. Until u get used too them again.
I think you'd struggle with the very focused position of the 848 evo coming from a Streetfighter. I struggled with my 848 EC SE coming from an R1. In fact I thought I'd made a huge mistake in buying a Ducati. It took me three weeks of regular riding to get used to it. But you do. And when you do the bike is great.
You got 20k this lot will tell you to buy the proper Ducati. If you got 40k buy the real Ducati. Buy what fits you and your wallet.
I test rode an 848 sf and an 848 evo and bought the sf as it is much more of a fun bike to ride. I recently also test rode an 899 and still prefer the sf. The 899 was great for fast country road blasts, but for anything else made no sense to me, it needs to be ridden higher up the rev counter, and had very little bottom end grunt even compared to my sf.
