Hi all, new to the forum and am already seeking advice with my Multi. Iv got a 2003 Multi which I bought a couple of months ago with only 8500miles on the clock. Awesome bike. I recently toured the lakes and first issue was the gearing. Iv just ordered a Renthol 14 tooth sprocket as the standard gearing around the little country roads meant that I hardly got out of 3rd gear and idled a lot. Second issue, exhaust, on the connection parts with the springs on, keeps blowing. Iv sealed it up yet after a nice ride out today, the paste which had set had blown through and cracked. Third issue is the damn fuel light. Iv seen on a few posts that it comes on early but mine seems to come on a 90 miles and says there isnt any fuel left on the range. Are these common faults or am I just been a noob. Oh yeah fourth issue, kick stand, its rattled a bolt out so when U put the stand out it leans further down than normal. Any idea what size bolt it takes please. Many thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated
The screws for the side stand are M10. I'm not sure about the length, about 25mm. Get it fixed soon are you can damage the threaded holes in crankcase if the remaining screws come loose.
I think the exhaust joint you refer to uses a £6 special crush washer that is a pain to fit and often leaks and is a one use item. You can download the parts list for your bike from the service area of ducati website
the exhaust leak .....I used to put 2 of the crushed wire seals together (spooning , they are a circular vee shape) and that did the job. Fuel gauge shows you how far you can go before you have to turn round and go back ....use the trip mileometre you should get about 140 till you need to refill but it will all depend how restrained you are with the right wrist some people could get close to 200, I didn't have that kind of self control.
i have a 2003 had it years i do 140 miles before refills leaves about a litre left usually i do make progress exhaust connections i found grounding out my centre stand (which rests on the cat) on the twistys would force the joints apart i would have to re tighten the bolts, side stand cant help mines non standard and is useless ,,thats very low miles for a first gen ,the clocks where prone to fail i would check old MOT's for mileage because its import to change the belts if the bike is left unused for long periods i usually let mine go about 9,000 miles between changes .i rotate them all winter by putting the bike in a high gear and forcing the wheel around when its put to bed in the garage great bike love mine
