I thought I'd comment on some recent purchases in case anybody's interested. The first is a tinted Puig screen. I was happy with the performance of the OE screen but several cracks started appearing around the LH upper bolt hole. I didn't fancy it failing 100's of miles from home so it had to go. The new screen looks good and protects as well as the original. The sweet spot is between 85-95 mph with just an inch of my outer shoulder and upper arm in the airflow. I hardly notice it but that's where the bugs accumulate. The screen is virtually the same shape as the OE item but maybe with a bit more of a "double bubble". It's 6.5mm taller than the original which means I can ride with it in the lowest position, which looks better and I would imagine less load on the screen carrier. I like the Multistrada graphic. Next are the DP comfort seats. After about 8,000 miles on the original seats (not all in one go!!!) my gf and I started getting a sore arse after a hundred miles or so. I spent over 200 quid on the comfort seat and I have to admit I'm disappointed. I can't feel any difference. The carbon looking trim looks good though. I've been a bit paranoid about dropping my top heavy Mutley and trashing the water pump or another crucial part of the bike, so I bought some crash bars. After consulting the forum and looking at manufacturers websites I decided to buy Ducati bars. They look well made and were easy to fit. The only problem is it's added another two kilos to the weight, so I'm even more likely to drop it! The crash bar instructions advise you to apply grease to the length of the replacement engine bolt (but not the threads), to prevent corrosion. It's a pity they don't follow that sound advice on the Ducati production line. Below is the bolt removed from a 14 month old Mutley. Cheers Kevin
I was initially disappointed with the DP seat it didn't feel much different, but I have to say that on a long run it was more comfortable. I had to rotate the bars back a little bit as the seat tipped me forward a bit more.
Same for me. Agree seat comfort not enhanced, and no different to standard. Looks better tho.... Air hawk cushion / pad for longer rides sorted my comfort out a treat.
I'm surprised you guys are saying the seat is no different. It is a different shape for a start, without the pronounced edges the standard one has. Its flatter at the back and more rounded towards the front so you dont get pressure points. The front of the pillion seat is more sculpted and higher than standard so stops the pillion migrating forward under braking. Personally I would not go back to the standard seat from the touring seats. I took pictures of the two seats side by side, as well as early vs later seats to show how they differ. They might be on Andys picture site, not sure.
Very happy with the Ducati Comfort seat, I do a lot of miles and only after a full day on the bike will it become a bit uncomfortable but that may well be my age showing Never felt the need for an Airhawk (used to have one on my FJR's) or anything else so far.
I agree that the seats are a slightly different shape. I was pleased at first because I felt the Comfort Seat gave me more support, although giving it a squeeze test I couldn't feel any difference between that and my 8000 mile standard seat. I fitted the seats the day before a 2k mile trip to Portugal. After a couple of days in the saddle, the bones of my arse were complaining. And my arse doesn't lie!!! Cheers Kevin
I've the standard seat, the comfort seat and another unknown. The saddleman is the best by a long way.
I fitted a pair of Sargent seats to my 2013, and perfect over a 2.7K mile Alpine tour this Summer. Bit wider than stock, so doesn't help if you're short in the leg.
