My 2012 Touring is reaching the end of its extended warranty. I have loved the bike but don't want to own it beyond the warranty period. I had assumed a simple switch to a 2014/15 Skyhook version but positively disliked it - harsh ride, equally poor slow running and comedy wind-protection. I do around 9k miles a year - 1/3 commuting. 1/3 weekend fun and 1/3 touring. I have money burning a hole in my pocket and can't find anything to spend it on. What would your choice be and why?
Without knowing anything about you other than you loved your current Multi and have money to burn it is hard to say but if I were in your position I`d keep your current bike as 2 is not exactly old and spend the money saved on something totally different like maybe a small boat or an old convertible 2 seater like a Fiat Barchetta or an MX5. None of those would lose much in depreciation. Alternatively if you dont mind the depreciation associated with a new bike why not blow it on a holiday or go to the casino and put it all on black or red ? That would be exciting and you might even win !
Try the KTM and maybe a trip to the Milan bike show to check out the new beemer due next year. Otherwise I would go with another mts, and try ot get the suspension the way you want it.
I changed from a Diavel to the PP - thought the same as you at first - needed to try the skyhook a few times and understand how it operates - the standard settings are for a 14st rider so they needed softening quite a bit - once you fiiiiind the settings its marvellous - no issues with poor running - full Termi fitted so that makes a huge difference - it is a much better bike but needs some miles to appreciate it
i went from a 2011 mts touring to a '14 1200 gs te and i havent regretted the decision yet. At the same time I would have nothing bad to say about the ducati only that like you i was apprehensive about owning it out of warranty... i was for holding off for the new xr bmw but alot of my riding is backroads and touring and when i seen the radiator set up on the spy shots i knew it wasnt for me. ive owned the gs for 3 weeks now and have covered 2000miles and have to admit it does exactly what i want it to do and cant see me changing it anytime soon...
6th to 9th november Bradders. EICMA We went back in 2009 to see the launch of the MTS. Got free entry via foreign trade tickets, and Ryan Air was 20 quid return. Cheaper thasn going to the NEC
Have you had problems with your 2012 MTS? If not, why do you think you suddenly will......what kms do you have on it? The amount of $$ you will loss on trade in (or even private sale) will pay for quite a few repairs. If you are happy with it....keep it!
You've hit the nail on the head PK1 - why get rid of a bike you love? I have a 2012 Touring and haven't had any problems with it either so why would I be expecting it to go wrong? At the moment imho there's nothing else out there to match the Mutley so why not take out a year's warranty and see what comes along next year? The new Beemer is coming out and the rumour mill is that a revised Mutley is on the cards. I'd wait til next year when more options will be available. PS. Never took out the extended warranty last year and it didn't break down.......must have been lucky eh?
