1200 S: full system Termis are melting my number plate!

  1. Has anyone else here had this problem? Any advice?

  2. Common issue either the end can needs spacing slightly, cut the can down or buy a smaller plate

  3. DUCATI MULTISTRADA 1200 CARBON LICENSE PLATE HOLDER 969A08910B solves all the problems....

  4. £336.90!!

  5. Is that the genuine carbon DP one because of so it doesn't!! Ive got a new plate ready to mount on aluminium plate. It is annoying considering is factory approved accessory.

  6. I've also seen it melt the rear mudguard

  7. Lots of us have this problem, I actually got Riders Cardiff to replace mine and my rear indicator lens, as it had become smoked. Don't know how often they will do that though?
I now have a sheet of heat resistant foil, the type fitted to fairings, it is working up to now. It has lost one layer but this could be just the top thin layer.
Im wondering if it's worth shortening the can a bit to try to alleviate the heat, don't know if this will effect the engine?

  8. I've seen some mount the exhaust on the inside of the hanger, so it's dangerously close to the tire aswell. Also, wasn't there something about the ECU coming with the exhaust adding more fuel, to cool the exhaust? My full termi is not close to heating my plate and holder.

  9. My offside indicator is getting a bit on the smoky side......

  10. My friend and I both have 1200 Mutleys with full Termi's and both have same problem. After our ride to this years WDW and back they have both warped, discoloured etc, it is starting to affect the lettering and as already mentioned our o/s rear indicator lenses have discoloured too. I mentioned it to my dealer who made a joke out of it. I did not push it any further (at this point) but what happens if it keeps getting worse and plod isn't happy if it distorts more? Could Ducati be liable? Or could Ducati or my Ducati dealer just make a point of it being responsibility of the owner to maintain it blar blar?

  11. I think our struggle would be that is for race use only so no number plate to melt!!! I'm still looking into idea of mounting plate on sheet of aluminium.

  12. What I am thinking of trying next is to stick some of that heat reflective tape which you sometimes find on the inside of a standard fairing if a panel is close to the exhaust.

  13. I'd be on the hunt for a different dealer then.

  14. Yes I know where you are coming from but I doubt many other dealers would take as much care of me. If I just came out and said "Please change that number plate when it's in for it's next service." I know they would, it's just his sense of humour.

  15. Good call. I did that once with a pannier on another bike and the tape worked really well. Wasn't dear either. Google and it comes up.

  16. There was a chap on ducatisti that fitted an aluminium back plate and he thought that it cured the problem of the melting number plate, not sure what gauge he used.

  17. Does anyone know where I could buy a small quantity of aluminium plate??
Carbon fibre would be another thought???

  18. Any tin bashing company would sell you an of-cut have a look in your yellow pages for sheetmetal work. I would go for either 14 or 16 gauge. 14 is 1.628mm and 16 is 1.290mm thick.

  19. 1mm thick 316 stainless steel backing plate matching the size of the number plate (I used to have an 8" x 6" plate and it still melted that without heat protection), space the number plate off the stainless backing plate with stainless washers to reduce heat transfer, works a treat, or it did for me anyway. Just look up your local laser cutting firm, ask them nicely & they'll do it for you.

Alternatively, do what I did in recently & fit a Rizoma tail tidy & tiny but VERY bright LED indicators. Works with the panniers, looks the dogs' whatsits & gets your plate right up out of the heat blast.

I'll put some pics up if I remember.
