748 Oberon Clutch Slave - Pushrod Ext

  1. Morning, Have got an Oberon clutch slave cylinder for my 2000 (X Reg) 748. Will this require the pushrod extension provided with the Oberon kit ?? Don't want to put it in then find i don't need it and can't getb the little bu**er out :)

  2. wise words as that's exactly what happens - you need some kind person to come along and tell you the two pushrod lengths as I can't remember other than that the difference in length is close to 10mm. Gws that shorter one needs the 'extension'. Some might say try and work it out depending on year but this can catch you out if someone has retro-fitted the long version.

  3. I think MY2000 was the year they changed as well..:Banghead:

Wasn't it dependent on the slave?

  4. Both of my bikes have the shorter pushrod, the Monster has an Oberon slave and needed the extension. I have a spare (short) pushrod in the workshop and it measures 327mm.

  5. the factory fitted slave could accommodate whichever pushrod was fitted (so two different types) but aftermarket usually are made to fit longer rod and come with a kit that includes the extension in case you have a short rod ; )

  6. Mine's an 02 and didn't need the extension, but I put it in anyway, coz iz like that, and it got bloody stuck. :Bag:
Squirt a bit of clutch and brake cleaner in there, give it a gentle tap on the bench and it'll pop out :upyeah:

  7. glad it worked for you - often gets 'hydraulic-ed' in (particularly if brake grease used when fitting..) and very diffiicult to remove

  8. It made me swear at my own stupidity - and yes I used grease as well - I'm claiming credit for an engineer friend who gave it a squirt with the fluid - simple when you know how!

  9. except doesn't always manage to 'wash' behind the offending stuck component, so not always that easy - can't even think of similar scenarios but only have to look at some of the clutch slave threads to see the total despair of some owners - sometimes the extension is a tight fit anyway making it almost impossible :Banghead:

  10. Nice that you get instructions!

If the pushrod is shorter than 30mm at the engine casing (clutch slave side) then you need the extension piece.

  11. Job done.
