Supercharging

  1. Following on from the Mercedes bike thread it seems the next big thing in biking is blowers. I've just been reading the article in Bike magazine about supercharging and the blown Triumph Rocket 111 they feature has set the cogs whirring. Anyone else fancy a 200bhp Streetfighter with 130 + lb of torque? Hmmm....

  2. I contacted TTS with regards to supercharging my '13 ZZR 1400 and they replied by saying that it wasn't suitable.
    Bugger.

  3. They prefer turbos, there is one in Bristol which is utterly ballistic...

  4. I know but as with all turbo's ,there is a spool up time, superchargers are much more direct and therefore easier to control. Also the pistons on ZZR's are like 916 rockers,a bit like chocolate.

  5. I actually have a supercharger in the back of the garage. It's a Roots blower, I've had it for several years. Doubt if I shall ever get around to fitting it to anything now.

  6. I no expert but I can't see the point of turbos for bikes either, but superchargers are a different matter. I just get the impression from recent articles etc that supercharger technology has moved on apace and small, light, less power-hungry blowers that produce bulging mid-range torque curves without over-stressing the engine might be increasingly on the cards for motorcycles. Its an interesting prospect.

  7. I turbocharged a Z1000 when I was 18 years old in 1982 and I can see the point of turbo chargers... :D :Wideyed: :Woot:

Turbo lag can be almost non existent with small 100,000rpm blowers mounted at the headers and remember once boosting there is no more lag ;) - even old school Mr Turbo derived systems like on my Z1b are not really noticeable and the sound when they are spooled up with an open pipe is mind bindingly awesome...

  8. Yes, I'd love to hear Guy Martin's GSXR for real. Even he looked spooked when he first fired it up. Oh God what have I done, sort of look.
Wonder what the supercharged Rocket 111 would sound like with open pipes.... Furthermore I wonder what 245 ft lb of torque would feel like...
Its the idea of small, lightweight superchargers which require few if any engine mods and develop "modest" 30 or 40% linear power and torque increases that got my cogs whirring.

  9. I might be wrong here but I believe Guy Martin's Martek already had a turbo fitted to it before he got it...? as I say I might be wrong....I know its TV but it did find it entertaining when the narrator said "Guy just has to fit the wiring loom and finish building the bike..." or along those lines then the next frame he was firing it up....fucking fast those mechanic fairies aren't they....

  10. Take a look on spoonvalley racings site they have a blown 1098 that is putting out over 200hp and 146nm of torque.

  11. Cheers for that 436hemi. Their website is under construction but looks very interesting. So they had to up the standard gearing on a 1098 because it was hitting the rev limiter in sixth on every straight.....
    I like. I like a lot..

  12. Yep, he bought it in 2010 already built and turbocharged.
