I agree with all of the above but would like to add that if the version of events originally given is correct then DMC come out looking pretty good. We all make mistakes in life and how they are handled says a lot. DMC appear to have dropped a bollock originally and then offered to repair or refund. On that basis I`d be happy to use them if they were my local dealer.
Ducati Preston have made more than one clock up regarding service books & paperwork at least... How about selling someone a bike for £10,000+ say it has been serviced and charge for a service, but not stamp the service book? Then when the new owner phoned them up to complain, he was told the owner must have left the service book at home! This despite the owner telling them he brought the bike from them and paid for a service with them! (They admitted this) Promises of paperwork being issued to the owner to prove the service was done still haven't arrived two months later! The owner now does not trust them to send his service book back to get it stamped and is questioning if the bike was ever really serviced. I'm not the owner but was listening to the while conversation on speaker phone.
Gregotch, I think you're mixing up bikes - the 1098 that burnt out was not the bike from DMC Preston. As we've stated before, it has never been about getting the bike back or seeking a refund, it was a report on the condition it was sent out ready for use. Do you think that it's perfectly fine to send out a bike as sold to a customer in a condition described as "immaculate" (but actually received as per our original post) and then offer to put it right or give the money back because the customer spotted the faults? Following on from that assumption, it doesn't matter what condition you send a bike out after a supposed PDI? Well I think I will start doing the same in my business! Yes sir, sorry your pool leaks and your electrics cut out, never mind, seeing as you've spotted it, we will come back and fix it!!!!!!!! Hey, if you want it, we'll even give you your money back and fill in the hole! How long do you think I would have a good name and future work ? Yes, it's human nature to make a mistake now and again, but sorry, there were too many faults on this bike for them to have just missed. It seems we are not the only ones with incorrect service books with wrong numbers etc from DMC Preston. As a general point, this section of the forum is for praise or informing of dealership experience. Having just arrived home after 3000+ miles across 8 countries taking in the Pyrenees, and the French Alps all on the 1098 and the said 1098s, along with 4 other Ducati owners, we have many stories to tell, we will be posting a few in the appropriate part of the forum, so no we haven't just joined to put down a poor dealership, we are here to stay.
hhhjesus - tell your mate his concerns are right. We sent our incorrect service book and paperwork/receipt back just under four months back by recorded delivery, after they agreed to correctly stamp them, but never seen them returned either. Seems they're not particularly good at paperwork either...
actually this is the only relevant bit---no lights, faulty indicators, flat battery, black fluids, poorly fitted new cam belts, tail tidy hanging on one bolt, various bolts fixings and plates missing, burnt out termis with dent in one side-------dealer="we will take it back and fix it! or will completely refund your purchase" to which apparently your answer is--"no,no,no,we'll keep it so we can go on a forum and whine about what poor service weve had,,,and then no,no,no,dont repair it cos then we'll have nothing to whine about.. sorry,but this is what "the postings" look like to me.sounds complete bollocks, why i dont know and tbh i dont really care. as an aside i do get confused easily ill admit,age that is and being surrounded by idiots,could have sworn your missus was a lawyer? and its this that still tips the balance out your favour im afraid,as any lawyer would be on the case,thered be no public information left anyehere until the dispute was finalised and done. gregotch it cost me around £700 to bring the bike up to the expected standard for a £8500 purchase as the bike itself had no other major problems and it was the bike and model we were after we wanted to keep it . As I have stated before I do not care about the £700 pounds I had to spend there is no way I would want my girlfriend on a 1098s tearing around hairpins high in the alps on any bike that's been serviced by DMC Preston - we have no faith in their ability to service a lawnmower let alone a superbike. This thread was purely a report of our experience, not a means to seek redress or resolution. Yes my girlfriend is a lawyer and has just as much right to post on a thread as any other person. As for whining? If that's what you call posting a thread in dealer reviews, then what's the thread is for?? Just to say how wonderful every dealer is - if that's the case it should be renamed dealer worship !! In my opinion your post looks like complete bollocks I would like to see your response to receiving a bike in the order we had and how confident you would feel letting them repair it if you wished to keep it and put your neck at risk on the roads.
What people are struggling with is why you would want to keep the bike? After all that went wrong the majority of people would just hand it back and take the cash then report on the problems. If it were a particularly rare model then there may be more sympathy. It's unfortunate that both of your first posts are criticising a dealer. However you are right this is not an arena just to praise but should be a warts and all place of posting. I guess everyone has different attitudes and values that lead them to view this in light of their own experiences, and how they would react. I find it interesting that the dealer have not posted on here and on that basis I will make my judgement . I look forward to see how this progresses.
I have strongly refrained - and struggled with it I admit, to avoid responding and/or making personal or snidey comments to those who are incapable of getting it, or just plainly up for a fight. The reason being is that you lose all credibility and respect in the reporting of your experience and come across as an uneducated, belligerent snipe, bordering on arrogance depending on how much you've improved your lot reading News Of The World. Baldyboy, simply because the bike in itself was a great bike, looked lovely and had the aftermarket stuff I wanted. Essentially a great bike. She wasn't a damaged bike or had any major faults that couldn't easily be rectified; she was just delivered in a very dirty and scruffy way, if you like! Some of which such as the incorrectly fitted cam belts, was, I agree, a bit more serious but all easily rectifiable. Thank god this was picked up later with our own checks.
I understand , however lowering yourself as per your post above does you no favours. Opinions are like arse holes everyone has them, the idea of this forum is discussion and exchange just because we don't agree doesn't mean anyone has moral high ground ( unless you're Pete ) Oh and I have done it, made an arse of myself, I'm not perfect.
working in the trade i see these sorts of issues regularly, the amount of well polished turds that cross my door would surprise you. i offer a wee appraisal for my customers after they have bought a used car you can bring it in, i will check it out and list any potential faults before the warranty expires. to be fair i haven't seen anything dangerous, but lot's of servicing issues, mostly from one major dealer network and again to be fair vastly improved in last several years. gonna stick my neck out here but again if this is an unbiased and genuine report i would be totally pissed. and lets not forget if its been fully serviced has the previous owner been charged for for work that hasn't been carry'd out. the pressure on tech's (at car dealer ships) to sell hours and get through the work is phenomenal and would cripple the average joe and i know as fact boxes get ticked whilst work doesn't get done.
Baldyboy, I call no-one names or call into question their professional qualifications or their day job. I see this as totally irrelevant - I am a customer reporting on my experience as a consumer; simple. What difference is my experience whether I'm a teacher, lawyer or builder? None at all? So what relevance is it whether anyone loves or hates lawyers to this thread? Who's even interested?! In my experience, when someone runs out of arguments, they revert to irrelevant personal attacks and at that point, I think one loses credibility and the overall argument. It gave me a great laugh however.

Thanks for the information, after waiting even longer with no paperwork he was considering chancing it - I've convinced him that paying another £600 for a service to actually be done at a dealer he can trust is much cheaper in the long run than not having a service booklet if he ever sells the bike in the future!
Well its now November and about 8 months ago DMC promised to return our log book all filled out correctly along with a £60 token payment for one small dent in the exhaust but as per, nothing was fulfilled. In stark contract, just brought another ducati 848 evo from 'On Yer Bike' Aylesbury and everything is in order, including correct logs, service book, etc. Lesson learned. Choose who you buy from, and service dealers.... the money follows good service.
You aren't waiting for a logbook. (V5c). Your waiting for the service book. One means the bike wouldn't be registered to you. The other means you have no proof it's been serviced.
Yup you're right - it's the service book.... plus their corrected invoices and records that actually refer to this bike and not another bike << sigh >>
In all honesty I don't think you will ever receive them. IF they was gonna send the missing bits it would of happened by now. On the flip side they probably think that if you were gonna do anything (legal or not) you would of done it. They've proabably forgot you even exist as harsh as it sounds. And now you are out of the first 6 months it's now down to you to prove a fault rather than them prove there wasn't one.
