749 Looking For Advice From Any 749r Experts Out There

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by HyperC, Nov 22, 2014.

  1. Hoping that some of you very knowledgeable folks could give me some advise please. There’s every chance I could be made redundant shortly so would be looking to invest in something that I could not only admire but use occasionally too. From reading comments in the past I assume to be an investment (I don't mean "make a fortune" but something that keeps/betters inflation and ISA's) it's going to need to be something that's standard spec. I've read Chris King's 749R thread which hand love the look of Sunny R's bike for sale in the classified section. What would it need to put Sunny R’s bike back to full standard spec and what are your thoughts on his £8k asking price. All advise/opinions much appreciated, thanks, Chris.

  2. I think you would be sest selling the aftermarket parts and then investing that money back into the standard parts, although standard parts are not that easy to find, but they do crop up. Look on ebay.it (ebay Italy) they always have more standard parts for the R than .com or .uk which seems to be filled with Chinese junk.

I have heard the 749R came with a few extras as "standard" over the 999R such as a slipper clutch, over sized fuel tank and different linkage / shock set up, if its true, then make sure it includes these.

  3. Iirc it wasnt fitted with a slipper clutch but did have the others you mention.

Also ensure it has the adj offset yokes.

  4. I too thought it was fitted with a slipper clutch as standard . Something to do with racing rules and having to race as oe but could be changed to better equipment if fitted from factory .

  5. Slipper clutch was standard but the aftermarket DP unit is more sophisticated. The yokes themselves don't adjust as standard, but the head angle does (as per other models) AND, uniquely to the R, the steering tube adjusts on an eccentric in the lower yoke for offset - at least I think I've got that right. Jerrys worlds: R Yokes Sunny's was one of the bikes I looked at like at, and very nice it is too - I went for JamesR's in the end - v similar in spec but I really wanted the full factory Termi rather than the Leo Vinci on Sunny's, despite the attraction of the titanium rear sets! I also looked at the Turin bike but that turned out to have been (lightly) raced in the Manx GP and Ducati Turin had managed to 'lose' its Termi half system.

  6. The 749R was fitted with a crappy ramp on ramp type slipper, which most people replaced with a nice ball bearing/ramp one!

There were a few problems with the initial batch of standard slippers fitted to 749R's IIRC.

  7. you need to understand the difference between rake and trail........something that article is misleading about...........

  8. I do - just didn't read that properly...

  9. Wasnt it only the 748r that had the cheap slipper clutch?

  10. sorry post hi jack............. can anyone tell me if I can fit a Bi P onto a bike which has the full Termi ( wide bore ) exh system. Ta R. ( all the S which are av just now have the Mono )

  13. I would say it's ok
Start your own thread, you might get a positive response there.

  14. The only issue I know about with the Termi can (pipework doesnt matter) is that the edge of the can with the manifold (toward engine) can fowl the subframe. Solution is to grind a little off the subframe and ive seen many mono's with this mod.

  15. thanks boys for your replys / input .

  16. Hi Chris,
Just to give you an idea it would be quite simple and reasonably cheap to turn the bike back to standard:

    Standard exhaust:
Genuine Ducati 749s (749,749r,999) exhaust system | eBay

    Fuel cap:
    Ducati 749 999 Fuel Cap & 2 Keys [ Fuel T.CAP+2 Keys ] 89520031A | eBay

Just giving you a few examples. I have thought of removing the expensive parts and putting it back to standard so I could make some extra money but just think it's a bit of a shame to do so.
All I can say the bike is very clean as Gru has mentioned and he looked over it for quite some time.

  17. Thanks for the heads up Sunny but without any disrespect to you or that beautiful bike of yours the price you need/looking for is a bit too strong for me. All the best very with finding more work, hopefully then you'll be able to keep her.
