I had a 1200MTS in 2011 and fitted a Mivv Suono and de-cat kit to it. It sounded great, not stupid but just the right side of acceptable. It had a removable baffle which I always left in because those early Mivvs had a crazy deep-set circlip to remove the baffle and I could never find a set of circlip pliers to get at it. Anyway I digress. I have now got a 2014 MTS and have just got a new Mivv Suono+Decat. I fitted it this afternoon and f**k me it is like a race bike, if I rode it on the road I would get a pull within minutes I reckon, it is like having no exhaust at all. Has anyone else found this with their Mivv? At the moment my wallet is much lighter and my ears are much deafer. {EDIT} I have just dug out an old picture of my 2011 Mivv, here it is, 2011 MIVV by wheeledwidewebb, on Flickr You can see it has quite a small baffle in there. This new one has a baffle (not circlip this time) but it is the same diameter as the pipe, basically just straight through!
Ah yes I have experienced both. Mine came with a short little thing like the one in your pic and I had to drill a rivet out underneath to remove it, so basically straight through, I liked it but I couldn't hear my music or sat nav or the wife for that matter with the baffle removed so I stuck it back in I just tapped the hole the rivet was in and now I can unbolt it for hooligan days, or if it's dark with the baffle out I get a nice blue flame on over run. My wife kept complaining her leg was getting hot and I didn't realize until I rode it at night and blipped the throttle while sat as the lights and saw the flames come out in a shop window reflection. Awesome......
The one in the picture is from my 2011 Mivv and I have just checked on Mivv.it and the pictures show the very same fitting in the end. This new one has a riveted in reducer pipe but it only reduces the diameter by about 3mm. Awesome is not the word that springs to mind
OK, I am not one to let this go quietly, I have been a total c##t. Hadn't tightened the header nuts fully on front cylinder. What a pr#ck. Sorry everyone. Now sounds 'awesome'.
I am looking at this very same exhaust and your original post put me off a bit as I am looking for something that I can tour on and not attract too much attention, now that you have tightened the header nuts up (ahem) does it now sound like you expected? Do you think you would happily ride around town without worry of a tug?
No, it is still too loud to go touring on. It is loud enough to annoy me as the rider to be honest. Since posting this though I have drilled the rivet out that holds the DB killer in the end of the can and replaced it with an Ebay jobbie that I bought for £12 that makes the thing totally acceptable. What's more you can even 'adjust' the length of this DB killer to find the sound that you can live with. In 2011 I had a Suono on my previous MTS1200 and even though it was quieter than these new ones, the Ducati franchise in Adenau at the Nurburgring told me that if I came across any plod then I would definitely get done. Luckily I didn't come across any.
I have the Mivv Ghilbli and de-cat very loud put restrictors in lost power but still loud removed them and had a baffle made, quieter but still loud, I can live with it and not been pulled yet. Had it tuned by CJS he did not like the de-cat or how short the can was ( longer can more power ) and the baffle is obviously restrictive, so I was on a downer. At the end of the day I got 140 bhp and a lot nicer bike to ride.
Different decat pipes, different cans, baffles in / out all make a difference. Others with my system negative baffles have made 157, mine made 148 with baffles in (Quat D's, air filter). For me it's not the final number that counts, it's the extra 10% torque across the range and fabulous throttle control
Try to remember hand made engines make great variants in hp anyway. If you have an engine up on power and increase its power you will have greater power than someone's down on power. Not taking the piss but that power difference is possible.
