Ever smelt burning rubber from your Multistrada?

  1. I have sometimes noticed a burning rubber smell when putting my MTS away in the garage. Today I discovered the cause - the centre stand rubber has slowly melted away, eventually allowing the stand to come into contact with the cat. Worth checking if yours has done the same!

Quite why Ducati would provide a melting type rubber stopper like that is a mystery.... now about to go away, so hoping the new one arrives or may need to improvise - where's that wine bottle cork?

  2. Yes, I had to replace the centrestand rubber at 7,000 miles for the same reason, and I already have another spare one ready - sure to need it by next year. If you don't replace it, the stand clonking against the cat might do real damage. The design is not too clever. And it's not very easy to fit the rubber either.

  3. Another reason to decat! I'm still on the original rubber, 10k in, and it is hardly marked.... I did decat fairly early on though...

  4. Just checked mine today, It also seeems to have melted? 3500 miles
Having service in the morning so will ask them to replace.
Thanks for the info, i thought last time i rode i was getting a vibe from it!

  5. cat.jpg Any chance someone could kindly check where the centre stand rubber rests on the catalyser please? Am I miss something here?

    Thanks!

  6. Yep, you are missing your rubber! The rubber sits in the hole on the shiny silver bracket

  7. Does that mean there are two rubber bungs? One on the catalyser and one on the stand?

  8. Anyone have a picture of the second Rubber bung?
Mine is as the picture from iainhwilson welded plate with a hole(no rubber plug)
I have the 1200S with all touring parts fitted by dealer (maybe something was missed)
Yesterday I had a new rubber fitted to the centre stand 12 miles later its already burnt slightly

  9. Can anyone help on this? Please

  10. Only got one rubber bung and it is on the centre stand. This is the 2nd one as the first did get badly melted, the 2nd one (fitted about 6 months ago) seems to be holding up better, maybe they are using a harder rubber now?

  11. I only had one rubber with original standard exhaust. Now on full system rubber is on stand and rests against bracket on termi bend.

  12. Thanks for the pictures LeNoir,

Now do SW Motech know something Ducati don’t and decided to use the Convenient hole provided by Ducati, put there for seemingly no reason.
Or are the many who posted previously with genuine Ducati Stands lost theirs or they were never fitted?
Can anyone with a 1200 Tourer with stand fitted at the factory confirm they have a similar bung fitted to the cat please.

  13. No such bung fitted as standard. Would be better if there was.

  14. Thanks Pete, I wonder if Motech do spares?
Trying another option first then will try Motech

  15. So that's why Ducati have fitted a centre stand tang that interferes with your left foot - to hold the stand away from the cat.
It's my theory and I'm sticking with it. Now to write my Nobel prize acceptance speech...

  16. Yes, my center stand rubber has melted away. The stand now contacts the cat. Yes, it's the touring version. No, there was no rubber in the hole in the bracket on the cat. The top of the return spring also rubs against the ally shield on the Termi, leaving an unsightly graze.
The rubber bung is getting replaced under warranty, along with a couple of other "niggles" (R/H switchgear, fork shims, rear caliper...). Think I should ask for a replacement shield too?

  17. I had minereplaced under warranty by the time I had got home it was burning.
A friend suggested a rubber stop as fitted to the back of car stereos it wasfrom a Vauxhall it worked fine 3000 miles to Rimini and back still there

  18. Fitting Vauxhall parts to a Ducati? Surely this is a stoning offence?
