Hi guys has anybody else suffered the casting on the Clip ons hinge breaking. This happened as I was just putting my 998 back in to its garage. Very luck to of happened at home and not at speed. I live on the isle of man and we don't have much in the way of speed limits here. Sorry the picture seems to need rotating but i think it shows the fracture. Any info would be great. And if there is a spare right hand clip on clamp some where I might be interested in buying.
Crikey. Good luck on catching it before you rode the thing? I would personally renew the other clamp too, fatigue would dictate its not far behind this one...
Pay days 2 weeks off but I think I will order 2. is that for 2 complete clamps or are you referring to the 2 sides of a single clamp. Would order sooner but I'm racing at Anglesey so my funds are stretched to breaking point.
Reg, it looks to me that the break has occurred as a result of damage sustained in a previous incident, you can see where the clip-on has rotated out of its normal fixed (pegged) position. You were lucky to spot it when you did and it serves as a warning to others where their bike has gone down the road on its side
the marks I think came from me nearly dumping it on the ground as I was on the other side of the bike pushing it at the time with the bike on full lock. Minor strain to the back but remained unscathed apart from the clamp that is. I have had every panel off the bike and found no damage any where on it after reading your post.
I had a friend have the same issue on his 998S. Moved the bike in his garage and the clipon came off in his hand.
Must have a close look at mine, however I suspect that in both cases above the bike may have at some stage fallen and stressed the casting.
Saw it on a mates senna too. I wounder if the casting fatigues with age? His was never dropped nor removed from the fork.
Either previous damage or it has been over tightened, saw this previously when a friend had there bike in being race prepped by a local Ducati specialist, pulled the bike out of the van and the clip on came off in my hand.
It does make me worry as being over here with no speed limits I know some of the corners on the mountain section im Flat in 6th gear before pinning the front forks for a 4th gear right hander at black hut. Running wide or leaving the road there would be very very nasty. Cranker V2 is fixing me up with a replacement set of clamps ( thanks loads ) just wondering what clip ons you would recommend as I don't want any old bit of eBay on my baby.
