  1. Hi all

I am looking to tune my 848 and just looking for options/opinions. I already have full Leo system with filter and ecu upgrade, suspension has been sorted along with brakes etc just looking to get more bhp somewhere around the 140bhp would be ideal.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

  2. Was going to avoid big bore kits, done this on a rsv1000 factory to take it to 1102cc but had nothing but problems with it overheating.

  3. buy a pani...cheaper, easier and better residuals

  4. Brake later, apex faster and gas earlier. Worth at least 20bhp

  5. The cost of making a small(er) engine perform is buggeringly expensive. You can look at making it lighter?
Unfortunately the cheapest option/most bang for buck is a bigger bike/engine.

  7. For road use or track ?

  8. Old or newer evo?

Inginition timing and custom mao gave mine 139, from 131 with a DP ecu flash

  9. The 848 has perfect balance of power and weight imo, I have light wheels etc that sharpens that feel, makes for a quicker handling bike, however it's taken some time to dial it in for the harsh UK roads with R&T forks etc. Full Termi transformed the bike imo, people often said it was a waste on the 848 and I believed that for ages, now I have the full system I would totally disagree with the fact the full 67mm system is pointless on the 848 as mine feels free now, people use to ask me all the time how I could tune their 600 bandit for more power, my answer was always the same, get a 1200 bandit haha, think the same aplys for the 848 as other say, get a 1098/1198 but Id take one for a good ride first as to me they are very different bikes. Saying all that like Bradders says, no harm is refining what is already there, dial cams, mapping etc can give a better experience.

  10. I had the 848 Evo did 8mths riding standard then bought full system and I totally agree boy did it make a difference, the advantage with the 848's over the bigger brothers was no dry clutch which for me was bliss no clack clack rattle and me constantly looking behind in case something had dropped off. :)
Some tuning may affect reliability or engine longevity when replacing internal parts for after market bits.
Adding exhaust system is a gentle upgrade so no fear there and also changing the gearing whether you go bigger back sprocket for acceleration or smaller for more top end should not affect engine reliability as you are just making better use of the existing power it has IMHO that is.

  11. Your RSV big bore wasn't by XPS was it, would explain it being bad. ?

If done right there should be no overheating issues as the 10/1198 use the same rad as the 848 so it's more than capable.

  12. Stick to the basics and keep reliability. Custom tune, timing, lighten it, no need to go big with engine mods as the return seems so small in comparison from what I have seen evidence of

  13. if its for track avtivities, get rider training - minus more seconds per buck than engine tuning

  14. My 848 has never seemed underpowered when used side by side with a 1098/1198, been out a few times and tbh Id say there is nothing in it, strange thing to say but true. Seems the trade off in corner speed v acceleration levels out, times from A to B seem matched, I am sure on a long straight it may pan out in the last few yards.. anyway, do what make you happy I say but for me if I wanted more power Id have a 1198, I choose the 848 over the others. :)

  15. Only time I ever had an issue with 1098's was on track, where the extra grount counts. Giys a little slower than me were difficult to pass

  16. Yes spoons it was by XPS on the rsv.

The Extra power I'm after is for on the track, I've had 1098's but prefer the revier nature of the 848 and just feel with an extra 10bhp I can put it to my friends with litre bikes. The easy option would be to buy a 1098 but if I can get those extra ponies for 1-2k that's what I would rather do.

I also intend on getting lighter wheels along with losing a couple of stone.

  17. Forgot to say it's a 2008 848

  18. I went from a 999R to a 1098R and although I got shitloads more wumph with the 1098 it took me ages to lap as quickly as I could on my 999R.
I've not actually ridden an 848 but I've heard a lot of good things. As already stated by bradders, keep the tuning mild and maintain reliability. I've recently had my 1098R engine rebuilt. I was tempted to go daft with high comp this and that and extreme valve settings but kept it fairly mild. I had the heads gas flowed and squished a tad. Its more than enough for me.

  19. The 848 challenge guys, with relatively standard bikes, cam lap at the same pace as supersport 600 mid pack, and only a second or two off superbike pace at most tracks. Maybe training and exerting every ounce from the bike will have you leaving your mates behind

(Said by a bloke who sold his 848 for a gixer 1000 as he wanted more speed lol)
