yea give it to a £200,000.00 p/w footballer that doesn't even want to play internationals nor give a fuck how he conducts himself on or of the pitch, the importance of being a role model or giving something back... No one in particular... pick one

 

Those at the top have always maintained their position by giving baubles and titles to those willing to receive them. We just get to go along with it, or not, as the case may be.

It depends on the extent of your research, in support of a balanced in depth view/opinion, or is it easier just to post up an extract from the daily mail online?

 

He won us a rugby World Cup, also when you compare him with the rest of the Westminster cronies receiving awards it's hard to see why he doesn't deserve to be there.

 

The thing he is an ordinary person who through hard work, determination and I'd imagine plenty of personal sacrifice, rose to the top of his profession whilst conducting himself in an exemplary manor both on and of the pitch. If you could pick a sportsman to show your children what sportsmanship and modesty is about you would be hard pressed to find a better example. Should outstanding achievement be rewarded? I think so...

Didn't Sir Jimmy Savile do loads for hospitals and charities ?

 

As far as I'm concerned honours should reflect a lifetime of achievement, public service, excellence in a particular field etc. Not for winning a single title in sport or an Olympic medal nor for a career that's over by the age of 40. And as they should only be awarded to people who have set an exceptional example to the rest of us, they should be automatically stripped from any person whose reputation is later discovered to be unfit - like Savile. Doesn't matter what they did for charity.
