Pcv Or Ecu Reflash?

Discussion in 'Streetfighter' started by nathdore, Jan 2, 2015.

  1. Hi i'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what is the best thing for me to do after i fit a new exhaust.

Im planning on buying the Austin racing GP2 can which is a decat can.

Now i've already been told that i'll need to get a servo buddy but i'm wondering whether it will be best to fit a PCV with a custom map or have my ECU reflashed with a custom map.

I'm new to all this remapping stuff, i just want my bike to run nice and smooth once i've fitted the new exhaust.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i've asked the same question on another forum as well as things seem quiet on the street fighter front on all forums.

    Thanks Nathan.

  2. Whilst not a "custom" remap, I can flash the ECU with a RexXer tuned map. They're pretty good tbh, feedback from customers has been positive and the O2 sensors and exhaust valve errors are deleted so no need for anything to "con" the ecu.
They're not going to be quite as good as a bespoke remap, but are a match for the power commander option and weigh in around half the money of either route. I can do them on a postal basis or flash them at the workshop if you're local to Nottingham....

  3. Ok that sounds like another option to consider, thanks for quick reply. I totally forgot to mention that my bike is the SF848 and not the big boy.

  4. I had a PCV on my s1000rr then decided to go for remap. The difference was amazing, not only the power delivery changes but the difference to traction control and anti wheelie all helped.

I got mine done at Hilltop motorcycles and would recommend them all day.

  5. No worries. Maps are available from RexXer for the 848 to. I've had good results with power commander to, but the RexXer does offer better VFM and does away with the error messages at source without having to plug in extra boxes or conning the servo motor.

  6. You stopped it wheelieing? Why?

Out of curiosity whats the cost of the mapping options ?

  7. I didn't stop it wheelieing but trust me I would if I could, reason being when it goes up you need to close the throttle....so you slow down....not good for lap times.
The difference the re-map made was it smoothed out the violent cut of power that slammed the bike into the ground when it wheelied and it also delayed it activating. Power restrictions were also removed in the 1st 3 gears. Traction control was also less violent. Power delivery much smoother. All of this was done for the track, I'm not so sure it would matter on the road.
Cost...I think it was around £400 but that included an MWR filter and removal of the PCV etc.
I was present when all work was done and even spent time in the Dyno booth. I have before and after maps if anyone is interested. The power increases and smoothing out off power benefits were probably due to a poor "made for you exhaust and bike" off the shelf PCV map rather than the ECU flash being the best thing ever, that said Geoff at Hilltop certainly knows his stuff and to be honest there is no way you can do this without a Dyno.
Personally I will never use PCV again and will always remap.

    Regards

  8. Hi Davy,

Thanks for the explanation, I used to have trouble with the violent slamming down to earth with traction control on so I turned it off and that sorted that problem out, I do find the throttle snatchy though and I would like that smoothed out and that is just road riding. I am also hoping it might sort out my fueling too.
I get about 100-110 miles from full tank to reserve light coming on, someone made a comment that maybe I shouldn't ride it so hard but I don't think that I do.
I have arrow cans on my 848 streetfighter.
    Where is Hilltop ?

  9. Absolutely an ECU reflash.....got my hyper done last year at cjs nr Bristol.....best single upgrade I've ever done. Saving up to get my rsv4 done the same way.

  10. Not wishing to hijack but what would a rough cost be for the RexXer? Mine would be for 996bp with 50mm pipes (when I eventually get them).
    Cheers

  11. RexXer tune isn't available for the 996 Cream. The ECU uses a EPROM which is easy enough to swap out. There are several decent sources. They've been around for a good many years now and have been sufficiently tested out. I'd suggest CJS or JHP as they're the two I use in my customers bikes.
Bespoke ones are possible, again from the above sources, but these cost similar money to a bespoke map on the later bikes.

  12. I will pop up to Nottingham one day and have a chat. Thanks.

  13. Cjs I believe is about 400 for the day.... Don't quote me on it but it varies from bike to bike I believe....think my rsv4 is going to need to days on the dyno as its a v4....shitter....

  14. Another vote for Chris at CJS. Transformed my 1098SF. I didn't bother with reflashes or add-on devices. Binned the exhaust valve and had a total reprogramme. http://www.cjsracing.co.uk/ecuremappingprices.htmUltimate"
Prices can vary depending on how much work he has to do. Some bikes aren't too bad, some are all over the place. Mine was all over the place and took nearly two days of painstaking fine tooth combing to get it as perfect as it could be and would have been a touch over £400 but I got a discount because the job was delayed. Worth every penny. I wouldn't consider going anywhere else now with a Ducati.
I may be buying a KTM 990 which are notorious for crap fuelling so if I do I might take that to Chris as well. I have no doubt he'll fettle that like its never been fettled before. Probably say a lot of rude things about it though. Don't think the boys are fans of orange bikes at Clutton Hill..

  15. I am hoping to take my 848 street fighter down there in spring if he is available, I have heard he has a lot of work on though :(

  16. Yep.....been waiting to get my rsv4 in its winter so it can wait..nice to get it done before the TT though....

  17. I have arrows on my 848sf with dp map flashed onto my ecu and it made hell of a difference how smooth the bike rides. If your is popping and banging on the overrun like mine was with the standard map, it now is so smooth it's incredible.

  18. I would not want to loose the pop n bang on overrun on mine as I like the sound.

  19. My Speed Triple used to pop and bang on the overrun. When I traded it for the Streetfighter I thought I'd miss the noise. The SF with open Termis doesn't pop, it gives a deep reverberating rumble. I'm addicted to that now. But to be honest any sound it made would be worth it for the way it picks up so cleanly off a closed throttle and delivers crisp, glitch-free fuelling all the way to the limiter light.
