Talking about weird experiences on a bike. Eons ago, when the biggest concern to me at the time was the oft debated 'Which is better, Acapulco gold or Panama red', I had a very fast Triton motorcycle which I had ridden into Horsham to meet up with a mate, and as these things often transpire, we had a fortuitous meeting with someone we knew who sold us a tab of window pane LSD. We dropped the acid in Horsham park and waited to come up. Well after about an hour nothing had happened so I resigned myself to a disappointing rip off, and saying goodbye to my mate walked back to my Triton which I had to start by bumping it, as I didn't have a kick start fitted. Well I think the exertion of the bumping kick started the acid, and as I threw myself on board I wondered why the rev counter and speedo were about 100yards away and couldn't work out how my arms could stretch that far to reach the clip ons. luckily I didn't have too far to go, the acid was coming on really fast now and it felt to me that I was in control of the most powerful machine in the universe. I did negotiate the trip through hyperspace successfully however, and just about managed to get the bike home and lean it against the garage before taking refuge in my bedroom to ride out the next 8 hrs. I did learn my lesson there though, Acid and fast bikes are not the best combination!
just remembered talking of weird, nearly ended up inside the rear end of a cow once ridding over uplaw brays at the back of paisley one night. 6v electrics suck.dont know who got the bigger fright, me or the coo.
So if not crashing is about being able to deal with what ever is in front of you...... Why is the advise for someone who want to ride on a track ( i.e. the same set of bends ever 1.42 seconds, with nothing coming the other way or crossing in front of you) always given as get some training..... yet when riding on the road ( where every one is out to get you, most of the time you dont know where you are going, and even if you do the chances are it will be different to the last time you rode it) the advise is get your suspension sorted......... look at two recent threads if you dont believe me....
Could agree more Andy. If you want to go faster and safer, get some training. On track its to get to the limits of you andt he bike. And suspension should be the first thing there too On the road its to keep alive longer and predict what others may do
First crashed in 1967; I can still see the scar on my right hip. Over 47 years since, too many crashes to remember, but only ever crashed once on a track (Lydden). Been really lucky, some flesh wounds but the only bones I have broken have been in hands, feet, collarbone, etc - nothing serious. So lucky I can hardly believe it!
Excellent John!! must have been one weird ride, I found it quite disconcerting to see the dining room table melting, let alone riding a bike!! Ogden's nut gone flake anyone?? Remember chucking my 6T down the road one night in Dawlish after too much Red Barrel followed by 1/2 bottle of gin, slid down the road watching the sparks thinking wow that's cool. Rode it home after the holiday though with twisted forks and no back brake in the p*ssing rain.
2 big hospital visit crashed, most frustrating was the second one as I had to endure 6 weeks of being laid up with a smashed ankle watching shit TV with "no win no fee adverts" - got hit by an uninsured driver...
