748 Quick Shifter

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by cookster, Jan 15, 2015.

  1. hi guys, does anyone here use a quick shifter on there bike? im thinking of putting one on my track bike but not sure if its worth it, i know people who swear by them and people who think there nothing but trouble,im not running a power commander as bike bike has been mapped directly in the ecu so if i decide to go head with it could i still get one installed?? is it one of those things where once you get one you think how did i ever manage without one or are they a waste of money and just a pub talk gizmo??? cheers guys.

  2. Ive no idea but its an interesting question, im surprised no one has replied...

  3. im sure there be along shortly to point me in the right direction mate.

  4. Hello mate, I have an 848 streetfighter standard shift, then I bought an 899 so I had sports and Street bike, after having the 899 for 6mths I bought a quick shifetr for the streetfighter.
Up until that point I always thought it was a gimmick and unnecessary but I wouldn't be with out one now.
    Hope that helps.

  5. any downside to using on the street?

  6. Personally I don't think so, on the 899 and the 848 I can shift easily even when not pinning the throttle.
Took 1199 out Sunday and seeing as I cant go above 6000 revs I was using the quick shift below those revs and it was not a problem, I do think it will make me lazy using clutch as not needed going up the gears.

  7. For the track they seem like a great idea.I had a techtronics one fitted to my bike and set up properly.I then took it off and flogged it on ebay the following week. Two reasons.

1.On the roads when changing at full chat you soon hit jail time speeds without even realising it.Plus you only get to use it once in a blue moon down a long straight when the feds are having a day off hiding in the bushes.

    2. The ducati experts that fitted it said in no uncertain terms if you run a quickshifter sooner or later you will be needing a new gearbox so best buy a spare of fleabay.

I was kind of surprised when ducati started fitting them as standard to bikes like 1198sp.Look how many of those have had problems already and the only real cure is a very expensive Nova gearbox.

  8. It comes standard on the 899, I had the bike a year and became lazy constantly using quick shifter even when not at full chat, it was very smooth even shifting at 3,500 rpm.
So I think they have moved on since then as I never had a problem with my gear box.

I do agree with point 1 that you made though, come off the roundabout on to a nice road pin the the throttle shift, shift and before you know it your over a ton easy.
But I didn't buy a bike to dawdle around at 30/40 or 50mph.

But that same stretch of road on an 848 Evo would still find me coming off the roundabout and opening up and before I knew it I am hitting a ton without a quick shifter. Might have taken a second or two longer.
So its not the quick shifter making you ride faster, your just hitting that speed quicker coz your not clutch shifting.

  9. It was no2 that was the real killer for me.I hope they have improved the chocolate 1198sp gearboxes on the latest 899/1199 bikes but time will tell for sure if using quickshifters.

  10. where every nth of a second counts ie. racing they make sense, other than that I really can't see the point in having one

  11. I have a techtronics one that's now surplus to requirements if you are after one...

  12. HM race pattern one on my 853r, and now fitting one to my 1198 powered race bike. HM one can be fitted in the loom whilst a pc is used. I love em, well like is more of a description.

  13. were they the jhp branded ones?

  14. how come your selling yours steve??

  15. Read up on the different trigger systems before buying one, strain gauge type used in motogp etc.

  16. yeah going to to do some more research, what would be the best one to go for with out using a power commander?cheers

  17. I bought the techtronics one and fitted it, then I changed my rearsets and it won't work with them without faffing about and I can't be doing with that.

so i've not used the QS myself.

yes they were initially sold by JHP, but the no longer support them. nor do HPS. I did however get FULL instructions from Techtronics themselves which I can pass on.

  18. HM, but direct race only for a real positive gear shift.
