I think Exige with your image and the assumption I will make is that the bike is either an early 2004 or 2003 R then the forged wheel was a completely different spoke structure as we can see which is of a thicker profile that the later style of spoke - I think the comment re the later wheels (2004 Red frame black S/A stand good ) - We live an learn
Yes, but my questioning is also aimed at learning also I would be interested to know if your mates 2004 999R is a 54 plate and possibly a MY2005 made in late 2004? I am unsure if official 2004 999R's in fact had silver frames and grey cast swing arms as the 2003 bikes had. I have read on-line 2003 and 2004 R's were the same and MY2005 / 6 R's having Red frames and Black Swing Arms, but also read conflicting stories of 04 R's having Red frames and Black arms.

Ahh I can see you are a fellow 999R enthusiast..... So allow me to tell you what I know on this matter. My mates bike is ( and I'm working from memory) a 04 plate registered in UK. I seem to recall that the plaque states January 04 build. It has red frame and black s/a. Happy to talk 999R on conversation
Thanks, that is part of the conflicting information I have already seen. There is also a lot of info stating 2005/06 being the red frame models and 03/04 being the grey. Appears the site was done years later so could be wrong. Anyone got a UK brochure for the 2004 999R? They could also have been different on the American market bikes too I guess.
Actually, I've decided the white stickers are wrong, so potentially they are forgeries...can anyone see where I'm going with this....:Nailbiting: So, my wheels are forged....
Blue hawk there will be a poor soul one day looking for answers and he/she will stumble on this thread!!!
I have put a red band on my wheels,, has to be worth something , even if just a few bhp as I am a keeper !!
So rims on this then...... Judges start your engines.... http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=181584756740&globalID=EBAY-GB&alt=web
I can't be arsed to read a all the waffle. Early forged wheels on the R (Fila etc) were of a "H" section spokes and were thicker. Then they used "Skinny" spokes on the later forged wheels, same as the 749R. My '06 999s mono had the skinny spoked forged wheels.
Well i bought that bike. Got it for a lot less. Been lookin for a good 999s. Guess if you want a good 1 its gona cost.
I guess the asking price is just a starting point - glad you got a deal done. It is a cracking bike, and they seem to be holding their value now - especially good clean ones like that. Hope you enjoy it. Get some pictures posted up
