Its not that for me...its a looks and style thing....taking it to its extreme, i expect a honda c90 is nice to ride but i dont want one.
I came to the conclusion some time ago that I don't have a "style", although about 10 years ago or so I was working at the NEC bike show and a mate was working for Hardley Ablesum who at the time were really promoting the V-Rod and it's derivatives. Said mate was taking people out for test rides in convoy and he kept on at me to get myself on one "you'll be amazed" he kept saying. No way would I consider myself to be a "Harley" type rider (no tats for a start) but I have to say he was absolutely spot on, amazed I was/am still. I have never bought one yet but wouldn't rule it out. I think for me it's function over form every time, I grown out of looking at my reflection in shop windows. Just sayin!
Ironically if you held a gun to my head the v-rod is the only one id ride. For me, its gotta look the part as well. Im 46 this year and I definitely prefer a newer style of bike than an older. I can see where over time designs have been refined. I hate the look of older ktm's (pre 2000) but love the look of the newer ones. My own personal reasoning for not liking the scrambler (in this instance) is that everything in ducati's range has taken an evolutionary step in the right direction - ie the original multistrada for example looked god awful - the newer model (the last few years) looks really nice, refined if you will. With the panigale, less is more, sleeker, not like the s1000rr that's covered in flaps and vents etc etc.. The scrambler looks like they've tried to make good on an old design (which I didn't like either) but the goes back to what I said earlier about my own taste... So, as I said before its about you and what you want but not for me. I suppose in a way its kinda (for me) tarnished Ducati in a way as pre, "the scrambler" - I would have happily owned anything in the currentl ducati range, which was a unique thing, as I couldn't say that about any other bike manufacturer's line up which said/says a lot for how I feel about Ducati as a company and a bike designer/manufacturer. I think you do have style, its just not my style but that's not wrong or a bad thing it'd be a pretty boring place if we were all the same!
I'm in the Dordogne my nearest Ducati dealer is in Perigueux it's called JMV Moto. Are you familiar with the area?
I said I didn't have 'a' style, I like a very broad range of bikes, I can't ever imagine hating any bike but I do like the look of some more than others. As I've already said I'm more interested in what it does and how it does it than standing and looking at it. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Heh - I didn't realize I was disagreeing! I can appreciate what you've chosen and why you like it...its just not for me. I can appreciate the functional angle - to be honest it might get to me one day as my back has been playing up for the last 3 years or so and I own an RSV4 as well, so if it gets any worse that might have to go!
We've had many holidays in France. We weren't a million miles away from Perigueux last year when we rented a gite in Les Lèves-et-Thoumeyragues, just south of Sainte Foy La Grande. Lovely area, spoilt for choice with good vineyards.
Welcome. I am in the Gers and just back on the forum from last year. Have friends near Perigueux-nice area.
