1200 New Mutli-strada Am I Going To Take The Leap?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by TonyMNo1, Jan 15, 2015.

  1. Whilst I believe it is an "all new" bike it looks to be based very much upon the previous versions along with a few innovations, such as DVT. There is nothing groundbreaking in there to spoil what I am sure will be a superb bike, I really don't think it will have to "prove" itself.

  2. Plenty of Pro's and cons with new or 2nd hand.
Even when buying a 2nd hand from the dealer you can never be sure of a bikes history, yes it has been serviced according to manufacturers stipulations but has the bike been looked after properly ?
Outward appearances say yes but who knows what the engine has been through unless you pull it apart.
Problems with brand new bike is like you said untried software new techno hardware.
I bought the 899 panigale when it came out, had to order it then wait for it to be delivered hot off the press.
I never had an issue with the bike in the whole year I had it.
Saying that the traction control and QS was a tried and tested method on previous models.
5 people can have a specific model for the same amount of time and do the same amount of mileage and all come away with different opinions as to rideability, comfort so on and so forth.
So at the end of the day it is your call.

  3. :) Well I've made a commitment to go for a July 2014 "new" build Pikes Peak, with numerous bits & pieces, still being decided upon, however, with the overall intention of getting it up to 'touring' specification.
Really difficult decision to make, but I've decided to let the really NEW model settle-in rather than be part of the advance testing panel. Might be the wrong move, but the PP has always 'worked' for me and it's the right time.

So final 'option' decision making next Monday and after that, well look out March 2015 and the new registration....:Nailbiting:
OH and it will be 'MOSTLY RED', with the odd white bit........:Stop:
Out of interest as a result of letting my terrific S version go, there will be a few farkles on offer, so once dis-connected from the 10-plater, I'll be offering them up for sale on this forum first, so keep your eyes peeled.
The sort of stuff I mean will include:

    • Carbon crud catcher
    • Carbon hugger
    • Carbon air tubes
    • Carbon chain guard
    • + other items
    ;):)

  6. Ah your in touch with your feminine side then, lol

  7. I have just placed a provisional order with Snells of Alton for a 2015 Mutley. They accepted a returnable deposit, i.e. if I change my mind after a test ride they give me my money back. Apparently they are expecting a demo bike by late March, and a supply of new bikes for customers during April/May/Jun. Suits me fine.

  8. Why Snells of Alton? Pete?

  9. I visited Snells, got them to do a service for me, got shown around their premises, and talked to some of their customers. I have to say I was very impressed. So if I buy a new bike, I shall give them a try.

  10. :) Pete a great choice I'm sure you have made a sensible decision; lots of people say good things about Snells :upyeah:
An on-going quandry "pour moi"!! Committed to a new Pikes Peak, fully loaded with Riders, subject to and all that, then I go and see a 2013 PP with just about everything @ Moto-Rapido with Andrew (Really decent and up-front guy) and even with 8k miles on, this bike is utterly immaculate and begging to be bought :Sour:
At almost £2k less than the new bike, I'm really at a cross-roads, as to which choice to make..........:Jawdrop::Coldfeet:

  12. But he said a July 2014, eh

  13. Its a looker, but what's with the rust line around the inside of the discs. Does the brake pad not sweep the entire surface ?

  14. Iron discs, sneeze within 20 metres and they go red!Out of embarrassment, probably:Smuggrin:

  18. Ha I do palates Monday morning.

  19. Try Pilates gang :)

Yes yes yes, the 5mm inner rust line is where the pads don't sweep. Despite even prepping the disks (removing the GunKote with a plastic scouring pad) and leaving the the remainder (GunKote) on the inner part of the rotor, the rust still prevails. Or moreover made its way through anyway after a few weeks. It makes not a jot of difference. The primary swept area does ALL the business just epically.

Laugh all you want, these puppies are "pop your eyes out" brilliant for feel and power combined with the CP1 Ferodo pads and squished by the Brembo M4's. Yep, they're iron, and yes they surface rust just by weeping with laughter & joy on them - and then you use them; then your laughing like a loon at how damn good they are.

So good in fact, I mash 'em just for sh1ts and giggles to amuse myself how bloody much fun it it to haul this weapon down to zero anytime, anywhere.

Take a look at the rear brake setup and get back to me when you've stopped weeping how yours don't work and I'll step you through how to spec this setup that's so good I can use it alone w/out the bad boy front brakes.

Apologies if this post seems a bit of a gloat, it ain't. It's just I didn't spend an additional $16,000 on this weapon for show. It's one super functional Pikes Peak. Happy to answer any questions. What I've done is worth every bloody penny/cent/dime.

Oh btw, she's no garage Queen, thousands of k's of Australian road riding attests to that. Gotta love those Ohlins and SCU.
