For many years, my only option was to ride the bike or stay where I was. When I think of some of the conditions I've ridden in, prior to passing my car test ... how am I still here? What sort of bike is that, btw?
not how are you still here but why? :Angelic:, yip like loz, the bike was only transport, been out in worse than that to get to work.
Granted But looking at the road this morning where this happened was very under treated - not to mention new Bike with L Plates I also only had the bike as form of transport a few years ago but would I take the Ducati out in that this morning Erm No I would of found another form of transport - Taxi, Bus, Train and tube is a lot cheaper option that to repair a new bike
Is one really sensible as a yoof though?I thought I was pretty well indestructable at 17.Those were the days,eh.
Yep - but - in all fairness when youre a kid and you've got your independence then you take advantage of it, early 20's for me I had nothing but my bike and wasn't on a bus route, I always remember coming back from Swindon to Bristol on my 7/11, no fairing, 1 pair of summer gloves on, M4, 80 odd mph....freezing, about -4 from recollection - I might add that when youre that cold you can sense the temperature change just coming up to cities, and tailgating lorries for a bit of shelter from the cold...
I actually was shocked that a Main road into a Built up area was not gritted and salted more this bike and couple scooters this morning parked up showing signs of going down the road on there side, Not to mention a Couple 2 up on a Scooter who nearly lost it a Few times
Same as a few on here, before car test, rode bike any and all weathers.Didnt really care.As soon as I did pass car test,at 28,bike went away for half a year!Get that heater on!
I will say that in admission - going back then - id say - no - id stay at home....cold and wet didn't bother me (well, it did but I had no choice) but I would say from the pic, jumping back then (for me) no I wouldn't have gone out in that...
I remember riding to Woking from the South Coast for a site visit, years ago. Turned up at reception to be signed in, then had to apologise for the mess as sheets of ices fell off the front of my jacket and leather jeans. Freezing fog can be hilarious.
Showing my age but I used to ride my FS1E in all weathers, remember 1980 being a bad year for snow, great fun. Wouldn't do it now.
Rode to work last year or year before on a Saturday in the snow - Ok it was not deep and the main roads where clear but its the wet windchill that's the killer, got a Go Pro vid of the ride in on the M25 then A3 - Started to snow heavier on A3 and as a Result the GO Pro lense froze over with snow and ice was on MY ZX6R at the time and rode that in all weather
today would I take the risk - No, If I had to be some where it would either wait for me to appear or I would find a alternative transport, Or close the blinds and get back in bed
My first bike was a yamaha xs 250, allowed back then , it was my pride and joy I used to polish it every Saturday , then , I fell off it every day for a week. Either going to work or going home . Never got polished again And I got the bus in the winter months after that.
