  1. Hi All,

As title, want to make my difficult starter a little better.

So perhaps someone can help me, can you get these from the UK? (don't really want to wait for shipping from US as I have the weekend free to do this).

    Thanks,

    Tony

  2. apologies, title should read 'are 'those' hicap 11...'

Silly me rushing to post! :)

  3. Why not just knock some up yourself, its really easy to do

  4. I did think about this, however after reading comments re: quality of cable/connections/crimping (or not) etc, I thought it would just be easier if I ordered the ready made kit with the quality wire and connections (at a premium albeit) for peace of mind...

Am I incorrect in my thinking?
Also, are they available in the UK?

  6. Not sure if they sell them in the UK, I couldn't bring myself to pay that much. Why not whip off your leads and take them to an auto electrician and asking him to knock up a better set for you.

  7. Why not chop a couple of feet out of some nice fat juicy jump leads, solder on the appropriate ends and Robert's your Father's brother?

    Or is that too simplistic?

  8. Well for a start I don't know the exact amount of cables nor the lengths, as well as the fact I don't know the best 'type' of cable to get and I don't have a soldering iron etc

  9. It seems nobody is keen on paying tat amount for cables ! Lol

  10. I knocked some up for my 996 about 4 years ago, an utter transformation. Cost of cable, heatshrink and solder terminations was less than a tenner of ebay. As someone said above take the leads off and take to any autoelectrician or even a car radio specialist who should be able to do it for you if you don't have the tools.

  11. Ok

Seems like self manufacture is the way to go

    Problem is

Which cables exactly am I taking off?

What type of cable do I ask for?

What type of connections (solder/crimp) should I be going for??

  12. I've got them on my PP & 998S

  13. I bet this subject has been done to death!? Lol

How would you rate them on urs?

  14. That's all you need.

Biggest pain in the arse is the battery box removal/refit to help with routing of the cables which you will have to deal with even if you buy the ready done ones.

  15. Thanks

I should be able to deal with battery box removal as I've had it all out when I was checking the relays etc during a non starting issue

  16. Its worth relocating the fuel pump replay whist you can, mine used to live on top of the battery box and easily got at by just removing the fairings

  17. Swapping the leads for something considerably more capable, really is well worth the effort. Gone for ever are the slow ch ch ch chug chug chug (will it fire up) chug chug VVVrrooommmm scenario.

  18. good point!.... i should have done that last time....will do it this time around...

  19. Not being that confident with electrickery, I bought the HiCap set from America.
It was a PITA to fit but when combined with a new Yuasa battery, the result is amazing. I've never had any bike start so readily.
It just instantly bursts into life...
Crimping and soldering are definitely acquired skills and the problem with the 999 is that the existing terminals have other wires crimped into them, not just the big cables, so you can't just take them off and have an expert make up a set for you.
To get around this, the HiCap cables are designed to piggyback onto the existing cables, so have distinct advantages for the uninitiated.
They are a silly price but for me the transformation was worth it.
