My 999 race preperation is under way. Service and belts changed done by myself and help from you guys:wink:. Fairings removed, new fairing bracket and front race loom fitted. Lock wired and antifreeze removed. I have never liked the narrow bar riding position and prefer a wider position, with the bars angled out a bit. Are these clipons strong enough to remove the locating peg and rely on a single pinch bolt on the clip clamp. Or will i have to replace them with a 53mm double clamp clipons What else do you guy do to your race bikes. Not in the position to spend fortunes just want a reasonably competative priced duke. Any tips and advice welcome
Yeah, you don't need the locating peg at all, I don't know of any race clip-ons that have them (they're only for getting the right position). I'd get some cheap clip-ons with longer bars. I haven't got a race bike as such, just put the track gear on my 749 when I go on a track day (which hasn't been for a while ).
Are you going to race it or just track ride? If you're racing it, there'll be a set of technical specifications for the series you enter, these will tell you the mandatory mods you must make. If it's just a track bike, you've already done much more than you need to. But you might want to look at cheap 'disposable' levers and pegs.
Will be mainly trackdays with the odd race in thunder bikes ran by the N.E.M.C.R.C In the north of England.
