Have been thinking of selling up for a while, I just don't get the time to ride her any more and she's not my only bike. I have lots of reasons to keep, such as she's a Ducati 998 and she's beautiful. Every ride is special, even if it's not often. She's never let me down. On the other side of the coin: I have limited time to ride, a lot of my ex road riding mates don't bother much any more and I'm not that fussed with road riding too. Insurance is due again this week, MOT again soon. Belts again soon. I need more space in the garage for another dirtbike. I could do with a cash injection to fund my own personal everest next year, which is the red bull romaniacs. Prices on these bikes I'm sure will only go up, but at the moment one dealer has a mint example on sale for over 10K, while there's another used one going for 5.5K. I fear that if she goes I'll really miss her, but logically I probably will only notice a couple of times a year. Head is messed up wondering what to do with her.
Depends how you look at the world of bikes, it's VERY rare to find a bike you couldn't buy another of if you wished, hence the reason I've owned 40 of them in the last 7 years, including the same make/model of 5 Superdukes, 5R1's and 3 916's... Unless it's truly special, if you miss it, buy another the same
Already answered that same question yesterday, keep it and love it to bits even if it's only once in a while. Andy
I ask myself the same question very often, but my heart always wins. So, the FE lives in the garage and costs me a fortune per mile.
It's a tough one. I think I'll have a tinker with it in the garage tonight, maybe crack open a beer and do some thinking. That solves most problems.
I've even thought about selling my sps for a similar reason. Then I fire it up, listen to the noise of it, give it a little dust and why I even went to look at it. It ain't gonna be leaving me any time soon I feel.
A great bike but if it's time to move on then do! I really loved my r1200gs but the time was right and I really wanted an 848 to keep immaculate for special summer days...lots of I hope : ) It gave me an excuse to also buy a brilliant but cheap as chips crf250m for the rest of the year ; ) Go with your gut feeling..life is too short..
I sold my 998 (the one on my avatar) about four years ago. Regretted it as soon as i handed they keys over. So 18 months ago i bought a 998s. She sits in the garage on my Abba Skylift most of the time. MOT, insurance & belts due. I've ridden her about 1000 miles since i bought her! I cover about 3.5k miles a year on my other bike. But OH MY GOD she's brutal, uncomfortable and FUN to ride and i love her! Got a long list of jobs i want to do on her! I MIGHT even do my own belts this year! Don't sell! You'll only regret it if you do!...
Ala ' big bang theory', flip a coin, if the result disappoints you, then you know what you really feel!!
Unless your either A: upgrading (998FE, SPS, etc) or B: your house is about to be repossessed, DON'T DO IT! Just SORN her for a year.
£5990 now: Used DUCATI I wouldn't dream of selling mine for that even though it's on 15000 miles now, it's also got some nice extras that add to it's charm and noise. In fact I've just insured it for another year and have decided to keep it for now. Injectors are coming off this afternoon to be ultrasonic cleaned, all the sitting there has made her run a bit lumpy low down, new plugs put in last night. I seem to be starting all over again. Hey ho it stops me drinking cider in bus stops of an evening. My local Ducati dealer was more than happy to do a commissioned sale on it, but advised me in a no bullshit way to throw a cover over it and keep it for 10 years.
Im in exactly this position and OP's on my radial brake upgrade for my 916SPS.Sometimes I think ive spent enough on it already other times I think fuck it you only live once. However if I don't ride it often it will be for sale and buy something I do use and enjoy.
