Front Wheel Spindles 900ss 94

  1. ive got my hands on another front wheel but the bearings are slightly smaller for a smaller front spindle. Can the bearings be changed to accomodate larger spindle?

    Thanks

  2. Yes, you can change the bearings; the spacer and the top hat bush in the left fork leg, but your speedo drive won't fit, because the machined housing for the drive is different on the two versions of the carbed SS wheel.

  3. Thanks for that, i had never thought about the speedo drive. I havent got one to check for fitting.

  4. There is what I call the early and the later carbed SS wheel.....

They can be easily identified by looking at the brake disc locating ring on the speedo drive side of the hub.....the grease seal would sit inside that ring, and then the drive inside that.

The earlier wheel with the thinner axle will have a brake disc locating ring which is about 6mm wide......the machined housing is approx 52mm diameter

The later wheel with the larger axle will have the locating ring at about 4mm wide....the machined housing is approx 58mm diameter.

Don't get confused by the even later SS IE wheel which has a rib down the sides of the spokes.

  5. Thanks for the help and the info, i will have a look at the weekend.
