Fitting An Engine Problem 749

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by welsh999, Jan 20, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

I have a 749 that im rebuilding. Have the rolling chassis assembeld and trying to fit the engine. The front mounting bolt has gone in but the rear will not go in. On lifting the engine up the engine appears to be approx 0.5mm to big for the frame
. I have the bike on axle stands on the footpegs and the frame is suspended to the ceiling via ratchet strap. Any suggestions or tricks to get it to fit?

Didnt think suspending from the roof would stress frame too much. Any suggestions guys

  2. take the front one out and fit the rear one and then try the front one,,,

  3. The engines are a very close fit in the frame, is the frame clean and has it been repainted? if so the paint might just a fraction too thick. If all the bosses on the frame and engine are clean I would carefully spring the frame to see if it settles down. Suspending the bike may not be helping but it should not really have any effect on the fitting.

Are all bushes fitting snugly etc.

  4. Sorry, can't resist........

Stick the engine in the freezer or leave it outside overnight; and put the frame indoors near a radiator overnight.........

Then run indoors with the engine in the morning........

    Well..........It might work.......

  6. All mounts are clean.Think ill try the whack method lol. Thanks guys

  7. but don't just whack the one,, try to get them both in a little,,, then you get to whack them both !!

  8. Get a pair of quick grips, they have soft jaws and can be used to spread as well as clamp.

  9. I've done one or two! Sometimes the frames can be a bit springy! Ease it open and don't damage the paint!
