998 To Sell, Or Not To Sell, That Is The..............

  1. Possibly yes after all 999's are 998's, but the thread is about a 998 and an upgrade 998 would be a 998S or a 998R :)

  2. Or 996R.

  4. I prefer the longer stroke desmoquattro motor thanks Exige;) but I get your drift about 998 series.998R would be the one to keep under wraps maybe as the last of that era in looks.I almost made the mistake (for me anyway) of selling mine for a 996R.Luckily I didn't bother after I rode a 998 with testastretta engine.Lovely bikes I just find the power delivery on the sps more fun to ride.I also want to try a 888sp whatever.Dont think id class either as downgrade from 998 or 999.

To the OP I guess only you can decide if its the right time to let it go but worth bearing in mind it seems the dukes that see regular use seem to be the least hassle long term if you plan on riding it.

  5. I agree with Matt. The 998/999 motor is a little too sanitised in its power delivery. I much prefer the kick up the arse from my SPS motor when it comes on cam.

  6. When I stop in a bike place full of newer bikes personally I still think this model of bike 748/998 as a work of art the both in looks & riding no T/C no ABS just me controlling everything though feel & trust how many other bike owners can say that !

  8. If you do decide to sell, my only advice would be,...get plenty of keepsake pictures. I often regret not having a single picture of a couple of motorcycles from my past. :upyeah:

  9. Oh my, how could any sane person consider that kind of a deal. A beautiful work of art for a pig ugly disaster. :Wtf:

  11. You know a similar conversation came up yesterday about my 996s, and will I use it on the road this year, all the comments above ring true, I only have to fire it up in the garage to satisfy my needs, the mrs always knows if I've been tinkering with it due to the smell of non cat motor, pure unadulterated fumes LOVE IT, I've also got a RD250 1978, and the daily hack is a zzr1400 so think the 996 will get another sabbatical this year

  12. Well, I'm just about to put a 1098 into my 996 bip. I think it will be eating 998r's for breakfast. Watch out for Waspy!!
