1200 It's Stuck Up My Pipe

  1. ....well it is.

I've had a full decat Termi system fitted to my 1200, sounds great with the db killer in but I'd like to try it without to hear what it sounds like and more importantly, what it drives like.

Problem is the baffle unit is pretty much jammed in, removed the screw that holds it in (before any wag suggest that) and grabbed the baffle with a pair of pliers but that baby ain't coming out.

    Any suggestions?

I can get the garage to do it but I don't really want to waste their time on something that I should be able to do myself.

    Anyone had similar problems?

    Cheers

    Neil

  2. Not familiar with the Termi can but with the can off, can you see the baffle from the other end of the can. If so, maybe some gentle tapping with a length of wood.

  3. This happens to mine every time I want to take the baffle out. I came up with a way of getting it out easily.
Inside the end of the baffle is a steel rod, horizontally across the outlet. You either need a hefty spring hook, or make one from an old screwdriver or even a length of 1/4" steel rod.
Heat the end and bend it to form a hook that will fit around the rod inside the baffle. If you use an old screw driver that's all you need to do. If you use a length of rod you'll need to form a stop of some sort at the end by bending the rod.
To get the baffle out I hook the tool around the rod inside the baffle and use a large adjustable spanner to tap against the stop at the other end, or the handle if it's from an old screwdriver.
A slide hammer could also be used with a suitable adaptor to fit onto the rod in the baffle.

  4. I use the wire holder you get with those kitchen fire extinguishers. Hook it round the end of the baffle and yank it out.

  5. And once its out, dress the baffle a touch with a dremel etc and gently refit and remove a few times, getting rid of the major high spots until it isn't quite such an interference fit. Makes life far easier in future.

  6. Take the end can off, then as mentioned, hook something over the bar, fasten it in a vice if you have one and yank the sucker out.
Then as 990Glen says, buff it down a bit before you put it back in.

  7. Nice one, thanks all. I'll give that a go when I get a chance. :Smug:

  8. If you fire it up does the can heat up before the DB if so it should make it a bit easier to get out
