Hi old rider Yes I agree, it was the fact that motolectric placed such importance on good quality crimping and soldering along with good copper cable that made me buy the kit...as well as what you mentioned with regard to some cables having to piggy back... Anyway, I have a new yuasa and I have just received a box from the USA (will check it when I get home) so with any luck I should be able to fit it this weekend and report back... It was a silly £120 delievered for these cables though!!!!! Hurts me to even think of it because it's my laziness that made me buy them... Oh well, I just hope it transforms my starting like it did yours Tony
So you actually bought HiCap cables from America and fitted them? What did you think of them I wonder - worth the money or not?? They were kind of worth the money for me because I'm such a numty when it comes to electrics but I'm a little surprised an electrical specialist like yourself would have gone for them.
Ive bought 2 sets from them - bought a set for my hyper 1100 evo and a set for my rsv4. I was in the U.s. on hols last year and got them sent to where I was staying - to say the bloke on the other end of the webpage was difficult to say the least.... I bought the set for the hyper first (to see how it went) though a bit of twoing and froing burnt my bridges with him so my mate bought the second set for the RSV4. They are really good quality - ill give'em that....not sure (to whoever has made their own up) but the nice thing about them is they are really malleable so you can route them round tight corners. His online instructions sucked especially for the RSV4 - he negated to mention in his instructions that to do the way he stated the entire loom would have to be removed and pulled apart.... All in all good - I would say all in all good - both start within half a turn - better than before....
Kind of - that would be like trying to route coat hanger wire around the bike - the HiCap cables in all fairness are really bendy/malleable...
I've got the cables, and the bike back...will be fitting them tomorrow morning (weather permitting)...will report back once fitted.
Sorry for the delay in responding. I missed this until it was recently brought to my attention. I know exactly how to make the cables and where to buy the bits, however I value my time more. The cables are well priced for what they are and do a great job. I would recommend them. May be if another forum member was already bringing in parts from the USA he might consider a European franchise for these parts and the CustomLED rear light (another great product)?
How funny you should mention that, but perhaps an even yummier UK product for a much nicer price point! Mmmmm, I wonder
Well they certainly suited me, in having a ready made kit I could just stick on the bike. It transformed the bike as well. In conjunction with a new Yuasa, I now have a bike that I know will always start easily and not let me down. It never actually let me down before but I always had that feeling that it might. The other consideration is the sprag clutch of course. iffy starting knackers your sprag clutch, so add that into the equation and it was well worth the high price I paid. There's no denying the high price though. The price in the U.S. is not cheap and when you add the costs of personal importing, it does make the 3 bits of wire seem pretty expensive. They are 3 vital bits of wire though. I believe a certain person on this forum has been in contact with the manufacturer but the manufacturer wants to stick with direct exporting, so no prospect of getting that kit for a more reasonable price. However, I understand our intrepid importer is now thinking about getting kits to an equal spec made up in the UK for a much more attractive price. I look forward to seeing what they are like and how much he will be selling them for
Indeed I am pressing on with this, even if it might upset a minority when I have any news of an equal or better quality product for less money that will benefit all (most) - I will apologise now if that is the case but carry on regardless
I've already bought the expensive American ones but good news for those who haven't yet and don't feel inclined to source materials and make up their own
