899 How Loud Is The 899?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Adamwhittuk, Mar 9, 2015.

  1. Hello,

Looking at booking a track day on my 899 with termi end cans... bit worried about the noise level and will i be ok at oulton park? anyone know what the noise level is on a 899 with the termi's?

    cheers

  2. I measured mine with our studio decibel meters at 111db and 109db. Leaning the bike over so the outlet is pointing up drops it to around 102/103db as it cuts out the reflections from the ground.
Msv apparently let you on if you fail the static test as they pass the fly by

  3. I did Oulton last year on my 1199 with standard cans....failed the static miserably but was fine on ride by. Might be worth calling the circuit just to be sure

  4. Thankfully most tracks are aware of the panigale problem now and as said they generally pass fly by tests.
    Best of luck.

  5. I didn't think my 899 was that loud with Termi cans on even with the DB killers out

  6. Mine was 103 with termis with DB killers out when tested at Mallory.

  7. Cheers for that guys

  8. You doing oulton on the 21st March?

  9. 104db today at Brands with the baffles out. No issues with the drive by.

  10. Had mine tested with termis at snetterton yesterday and it was 105db without baffles but im sure he doesnt test them right i didnt have baffles with me to fit as i wasnt doing the trackday so will take another ride uo there soon with baffles

  11. Hmmm. so what revs? What distance from the exhaust outlet? Enclosed space ? Hard ground or grass? Unless you can repeat tests as per ACU specifications (or the draconian castle doom ones) it not worth bothering. And is misinformation for those that are a little nervous.

  12. Mine was done at 5000rpm but i reckon he was a little close with the stick to the exhaust

  13. My 1199S with termis and custom made baffles was 104 and Brands.

I'm guessing you will only get through on loud days.

  14. 0.5 metres from exhaust outlet with db reader at 45 degrees to outlet. Concrete floor with 3 enclosed walls as I left side doors open. 5500rpm in neutral

Think that's as per msv guidance?

Leaning bike to have outlet point up has a dramatic effect on the reflections generated by the ground and the reading is much lower.

  15. Not with enclosed walls fella - that will cause sound wave reflection and increase readings. Noise testing is done in an open area.

  16. I know they do. I was just measuring for my own amusement before booking trackdays.
It's a dead room the walls are all acoustically treated so there aren't any reflections. I just left the door open to let fumes out and point them towards open air. Even with the door open its still close to dead.

  17. Took the 899 to Cadwell Park on Monday last, it registered 105dB with standard cans with the bike leant over. I have asked various dealers if there is anything I can do to reduce the noise for track days which are 104 or even 102dB and they have said no there is no after market kit to reduce the noise It would be a great shame to go all the way to Brands, shell out for an hotel and then be turned away. does anybody have a solution for my piece of mind?

  18. IF you are on stock exhaust - show up - and tell them its a panigggaalleeee.

    you'll be fine.

  19. My mates 899 was recorded at brands at 106 decibels and was turned away that's with stock cans. Apparently the termi cans with DB killers in is quieter.

  20. I've been to oulton and seen a few 899 with termi's going around yet the noise limit is 102 there. Ill just have to book and hope for the best
