1200 Just Joined The Gang... Risky?

  1. Welcome to here and congrats on the purchase. Risky? No more than anything else I reckon. Enjoy the anticipation until the 20th, get a new credit card for all the must haves then..........have a ball! :upyeah:

    Health to use.

  2. Gone for security (not disclosing my arsenal) as my first "must have". Got a wedding round the corner so that comes first. Not having another theft. Glad to hear not everyone is moaning about their mutleys.

  3. Glutton for punishment obviously.
Welcome anyway, all Ducatis have there problems but the grin factor outweighs them all

  4. Had my 1200S nearly two years. Have had loads of bikes in a 40-plus year riding career and this one is the nuts.

Fast, confidence-inspiring, long-legged and comfortable and offers more smiles per mile than anything else I've ever ridden.

Couple of minor warranty issues were sorted without fuss. Just coming up to my 15,000-mile service. It's a brilliant bike. For me the best available at the moment. Enjoy.

  5. You'll love it and if any issues come up you have the warranty. My 2010 is still going really well on 20K+ miles so get planning for some long trips!

  6. What!!! Even the Thai bride? :)

  7. By coincidence I've just turned down a 2012 MTS and bought an SMT instead. All you say is true but I felt it could equally be said of the MTS. I would really love a pair of Ducatis - one for hooliganism, one for holidays - but I had quite a list of niggles I'd have to put right before I could enjoy the Multti and the cost of doing so was prohibitive.
Both bikes can be fettled but there is less to do on the KTM and they are at least £2000 cheaper to start with. I've just lavished a wodge of money on my Streetfighter and I can't really afford to do it twice, much as I'd like to.
Its a pity because I was talking to Chris Steadman at CJS about sorting a Multi and he and Rich at Louigi Moto would be interested in getting their hands on a project MTS with a view to getting 180 bhp out of it. (They have a plan...) I very nearly wavered. After the wonders they've worked on my SF, if I could have bought the Multi in question for 6K instead of 8.6K it would be in their workshop now.

  8. What have you done to the Streetfighter ?

  9. Full engine rebuild. Blue-printed, dynamically balanced, flywheel lightened, heads skimmed (quite a lot..), ported and flowed (very little - almost spot on) and cam timing altered. The bike already had Termi cans and the exhaust valve was removed on a previous visit. Then a full custom remap. It cost about £3300 ride-in/ride-out.
It has produced a fabulous engine with gargantuan grunt and amazing smoothness. I've had a few rides on it since it came back at the end of January but winter has prevented a proper workout. My impressions so far are that it was worth every single penny. They would seem to have created a wildly exhilarating bike that feels refined and remains thoroughly practical and easy to ride. Its a base model with no TC so I need some warmer roads to really put it through its paces. With the weather warming up I'll get that chance soon. When I've given it its first oil change and explored the engine, including the top end which was searing before the work was done but is showing a hefty increase on the dyno chart, I'll write it up fully in the SF forum included the charts.
The problem is I'm spoiled now. Having done this to the SF I know I wouldn't be content with a standard MTS without tapping the potential which I know is in there.
A sorted, decatted high-miler Multi won't give you much change out of 8K and if its high miles, even if sound, as the idea is to put high miles on it myself I'd want to do the engine work. That takes it back up to an 11K+ bike. If the Multi was to be my only bike, I wouldn't hesitate. I think I'd go for a pretty pre-sky hook S model and give it the full works.

  10. I thought all Street fighters came with TC ? I know all the 848's did so is yours a 1098 ?
What you spent on engine is what I spent on carbon and anodised for my 1199.
My 848 is going in for a remap will see what the results are and go from there. It's a hooligan bike to begin with :)

  11. Maybe you boys should start a new thread about the Street fighter on their pages?

  12. Yes 1098. I wasn't trying to hi-jack the Multi forum with SF stuff (said topic will be started there in due course) but I think the SF tuning is relevant, particularly in this thread because it was in light of my experiences with the SF that the amount of putting-right I felt the MTS needed made one, for me, unaffordable as a second bike. It was a bit of a blow actually. I completely get the idea of the Multi and I was really wanting to want one. If you know what I mean.
For what its worth, I'd love to have a "base model" Multi as devoid of electronics as my SF is. Unfortunately they don't exist out of the crate, you have to make them that way yourself. And if the damn things didn't hold their value so well I'd be doing it.

  14. Just ride it they are great.
As @Gimlet rightly says you need to make some improvements to get them right (for you).
On the 2010 MTS1200S (Ohlins) model my slim build meant upping the springs back and front (2 factors).
New seat, new screen(s)...five in total. New front brakes (M50s). New design of bleeding the front and rear brake. Now copied the world over thanks to Andy and Ducati Multistrada 1200 - MTS1200.info redirect New levers, new clutch slave, CJS remap, LeoVince decat....etc etc.

Then I'm selling that one and started again with a twinspark PP version.

I LOVE THE MUTLEY (45K miles and climbing)...

  15. Not that keen on the Multi's looks but love my SF, mind you I think I have overspent this year already :( Wil have to save for a long while before I can splash out on my machines again :(

  16. I thought that. But when I saw in the flesh a shiny PP festooned with carbon and Ohlins gold I completely understood the urge to trade in. Photos don't do that bike justice. On the showroom floor they look something else.

  17. @Cupid Stunt sees two flashy PP on a regular basis at the box.
    Both covered in Farkles.

  18. And a blinged up 1199s Stealth :)

  19. You wish.

  20. On way to pick the multi up now [emoji13]. Ride home is 35 mins, may take slightly more today though
