For my 1099SP build (will open a build thread asap), I bought a brand spanking new set of Marchesini forged wheels... Never noticed there was very slight allmost unnoticable color difference untill the wheels were mounted and the bike was out in the sun... Nobody noticed, but I did... A pain in the ass of a perfectionist... So because the whole bike is a "special" i figured it might aswell roll on special wheels... So I decided to take em out to start "a little side quest" I want to have them annodised so I had the paint chemically removed... And this came out... As you guys can see, there are still some unwanted spots on it... Does anyone have an idea how to clean this/polish them without losing the machined finish? I haven't tried anything yet besides a soft towel with brake cleaner... Or should I sand it al out, and have them vibratorially polished prior to annodising?
I use a very fine grade Scottish brite pad on damper services at work. It usually cleans up paint and dirt without damaging anodising. If its bare ALLY you can also use acetone as well to clean and detox the metal thoroughly. Having trouble finding acetone... Buy a 5l bottle from Amazon for 20 pounds, you will use it again . Have fun!
Okay, thanks for the input! I've tried rubbing the inside bed with a kittchen sponge (fine grade Scottish brite alternative) It cleans them completely, but they turn to silk gloss, allmost matt (obviously) I figured the best final result would be achieved by having it near perfect before taking it to anodise shop...?! I've heard that the shine/bling after final anodising depends on the shine prior to anodising.
I gave it a quick go with a polish wheel in the cordless drill, here a before and after picture: Before After
Haha, dont worry eric, this only works on forged wheels... Cast alloy wheels consists of aluminium and silicium... Added for better viscosity... Downfall; it colors different than the aluminium, which causes uneven coloring or even dark spots... So don't bother trying, mate!!
Ok, so I've dropped my wheels off at the Anodising company... The process engineer took me around the shop and explained the exact process, very interesting... They are gonna chemically clean em, rinse em, chemically polish em, rinse em again, anodise em, rinse em again, dye em, and rinse em again... very labour intensive... But worth it... I keep the final color a little secret, just stay tuned I would say... ;-)
Here are the results.... I love how they turned out!!! They look way better in real life!! Photo's just don't seem to able to capture them the way they are (bike it self is allso much deeper red (Lamborghini Rosso Vic without metallic)
Isn't nail varnish remover acetone? Or have I been sniffing too much of it of late... (must go.... The giant spiders are coming...)
Hahahaha LOL Me too... But I believe ur right! Nail varnish remover seems the same... Sniffed the stuff from the misses, now I see spiderpig walking upside down on the ceiling... Singing Homers spiderpig song... DÔHHH
I'm sure it isn't classed as a carcinogen as I do a lot of fibreglass work on roofs and this was one of the first things I researched before using it.
