900 Ss Bolt Kit '92

  1. Hi Guys and Girls,

I'm currently doing a small restoration project on a '92 900ss and was wondering if anyone had already put together sizes etc of a bolt kit. the bolts i currently have really could do with replacing so i think this will be the best option

    TIA

  2. Anybody any ideas??? :(

  3. Try Race Bolt

  4. Cheers, will take a look

  5. Which bolts - whole thing or just the motor? These guys do an engine kit
Ducati Monster 600/750/900/S/SS Engine Stainless Allen Bolt kit

I get all my stainless gubbins from them.

I have a note of almost all the bolts on my 94 750ss. Not literally all, but pretty close. I could be persuaded to type them up one day...

    Mick..

  6. Ooh, could the day that you type them up possibly be soon I wonder??

  7. And I'm thinking whole thing if possible!

  8. That list would make a great tea towel, ideal Xmas gift for her or indeed him indoors.

  9. Lol . If I'd done it last week I could have got my boy to give it to the missus for mother's day....

I'll make a start on a list (was going to do it anyway to be honest as it's just on pieces of paper for now). Give me a couple of days..

    Mick..

  10. Mick you're a saviour :D

  11. There are lots of sources for stainless bolts.
I have replaced loads on my 999 and got them from various suppliers. Some are very cheap but the quality can be pretty ropy from a cosmetic point of view.

Pro-bolt supply beautifully machined and polished conical bolts in kits but they are very costly.

I recommended Race-bolt because theirs are very similar but usefully cheaper.

I have a polishing fetish, so with the cheaper bolts I 'machined' them myself by sticking them in a drill-chuck and going through grades of sand paper and wet and dry, then getting them to a mirror-finish by finishing with metal-polish.

However, I ordered some Dzus-style fasteners from RaceBolt and they were already so nicely finished that they only needed a quick buff with metal polish and even that wasn't strictly necessary.
They even feel better than oem to use, so highly recommended.

  12. I think you might need help...;)

    Mick..

  13. Any use.........??

Courtesy of someone else on here, but sorry, can't recall who.....

  15. Right, unfortunately I don't have as many on my list as I thought I had - I'm part way through my rebuild and I think I chucked one of my scrappy lists away. Many still here though.

To be clear, my bike is a '94 750SS (wet clutch, marzocchi forks), some of which I know not to be original. I simply measured what I removed and replaced like-with-like unless it was clear that they were too long/short or mismatched. The actual OEM fasteners may well be slightly different - these are just what I found when I removed them. Some will be high-tensile originally (I've not noted which), so that's up to your judgement. Most threads are as you'd expect but I think a couple were out of the ordinary (from memory a couple of the M10s were a larger thread than "standard" - that might be "typical Ducati" or not.

  16. Scott,

If you are short of any sizes in places you can't get to or can't take out at the minute let me know (don't give me too many just drip feed me) and I will measure up what I have disassembled. My bike is in bits - Iam getting fed up of say that, I will have to get my finger out.

Then when you are finished you can give me a copy of your list now you are the official keeper of the bolt list.:D

Picture please of said 92 900ss.

edit - sorry scott did not see your previous introduction. A 92 on an L plate. Mine is on a J but was not registered until 92. Also petrol tank seem to be later model.

    Cheers Gaz

  17. My 400 has got a full alloy probolt kit in the engine, but they do ring out easy. Some are now stainless, got them of eBay. Good prices and the quality is good. Do need a new fairing kit for my 750 but with the cup washers you won't get much change from 50 quid!! You can get the ones for the front mudguard off the bay too(can't remember what their called), I think they were 2 quid for 5.

  18. Would this be the same as a 94 900ss?

    Jon

  19. Stein-Dinse in Germany have the cup washers for €2.90 each; just over £2.00. Only snag is, with shipping you probably need to add some other bits to make it worthwhile. Then you can pick up the fairing bolts from the bay. The ones for the cup washers have half-height heads, but they are available.
