Someone Explain

  1. I guess you must have cut a few heads off at school then............not knowing 'wrong' from 'right'

  2. Yeah that's right, loads of them. :Banghead:
I'm guessing you are struggling to understand the purpose of propaganda, it's lies and twisted truths to control and influence those who are easily persuaded. These peoples views of the truth are warped and twisted but that can be undone.
Should those 15 year old girls who were lied to and persuaded that they would have a better life in Syria be made to suffer because their families didn't spot the warning signs?

  5. I'm struggling a bit, while I can understand why we may think we are protecting both these peolpe from themselves as well as protecting us, why do I feel incredibly uncomfortable that our govt are deciding what, where and why the citizens of the UK travel?

  6. Exactly the issue, in my mind. I find this the most disturbing aspect of the whole thing.

  7. Liestening to the NHS briefing discussed on the radio yesterday, seems anyone that opposes or campaigns against the Govt can be considered a risk to security and is to be reported...they conceded some reality filter has to be added or the whole of Labour are being sent to Guantanimo (some would say not a bad thing, ;) )

  8. I guess a lot comes down to if they are under 16 then they are classed as children so action must be taken to stop them joining any fighting groups abroad.

Im with Attila on this one I didn't know what I was doing really at 15 yrs old hense I carried lethal weapons as was prepared to use them at the slightest provocation. So people can change if the right people speak to them and make them aware of the mistakes they are making.Watched a good news item on how the French are now dealing with radicalization after recent attacks.

Much cheaper than banging them up in high security prisons for life or dropping lazer guided bombs on them in a far away land. However once over 18 you either stop them all or let them all go.Its complete double standards to say you can go out and fight against people we don't like but not against people we do like.

  9. The concept of being neutral seems to have withered. Whenever a nation is at war, its citizens are not supposed to fight for the enemy against their own country, and are liable to be punished severely if they do. But when a war is going on between two other countries or entities, citizens of a neutral country are surely able to go and fight for either side of the conflict if they so choose (e.g. the Spanish Civil War 1936-39). I am not sure where the idea has come from, that UK citizens are not supposed to do this any longer.

  10. I guess if they do stop everyone I would have been bang in trouble as I went to France last year to join the Army but missed the max age by six months due to injury causing delay and incorrect info of there site and official recruitment leaflets.

On a positive note I don't usually associate bright ideas and the police in the same sentence but this aint a bad idea for sure.

  11. ISIS is presumably officially designated a terrorist organisation by the British Government. Is it not an offence to give succour or material or strategic support to a terrorist organisation? Or does that only apply to terrorist organisations or their supporters when both are on UK soil?
    I don't know. Genuine question.

  12. Clearly there is spin apparent on both sides of the conflict, perhaps critical thinking should be taught at school. Then these poor 15 year olds could make up their own minds and see through the crap.
Of course if a 15 year old cannot genuinly tell the difference between right and wrong then they should not even be able to leave the house.
For example, if the killing of moslems is what most upsets them then ask who is the biggest killer of moslems in the world?
It is other moslems, always has been and , until there are none left, always will be.

  13. When I were a boy of fifteen, I was no angel; but I certainly knew the difference between right and wrong.......

So if I was doing something wrong, I knew what I was doing........

Maybe it's all about parenting and education being so dumbed down............or maybe it's simply to get a selfie of 'me' joining ISIS, so 'my' selfies are better than 'yours'.

  14. Good question. I don't know either. UK law in this area has repeatedly changed in recent years, and is now so murky and convoluted it is difficult to know where it stands.

  15. Interesting point. I have a sneaking suspicion that in the liberal democracies, we try so hard to be non-judgemental and to accord validity to differing viewpoints that the lines between right and wrong are indeed blurred for many people.
For example, you see bankers fixing LIBOR rates, or miss-selling or generally screwing people and there is no comeback for them. Nor, indeed for tax dodgers. Then people from Broadwater Farm, for example, think that rioting and stealing TVs from Argos is fine. After all, if they can do it, why not me? Is it so wrong? they will say.

And if life is all about winning, then cheating is a smart thing to do. Look at your average football match - cheating is what you see, every minute of the game (hacking people deliberately, pulling shirts, elbowing people, smothering them, jostling them, etc etc.) No one suggests that this is poor behaviour; it is "just normal" in a football game and if it helps your team win, it is laudable. So cheating in life has become endemic. If life is all about me, me, me, then doing whatever it takes to advance your personal comfort is the ultimate morality. It benefits me, it's good. It doesn't, it's bad. The objective idea of right and wrong has become a hazy concept for many. I think that kids grow up now with this sort of mindset.

The selfie is indicative of this. It shows how fixated people are on themselves. It's not about getting a photo of a celebrity, it's about getting a photo of ME with a celebrity. It's about ME, not them.
Old: here's a picture of the Taj Mahal when I visited it.
New: here's a picture of ME in front of the Taj Mahal (more brownie points for ME).

  16. I knew right from wrong at 15 but didn't give a fuck as I was pissed off and angry and rightly so but I didn't deal with things the more mature way due to my age.Nothing to do with parenting or education as my bro was a model student that never even got in a fight as a youth.

I also think at that age you are more easily influenced by others and make more poor choices and decisions.Like joining a gang in the UK or going to Syria to join ISIS.I think many young lads joining gangs in the UK is a far bigger problem than the odd few going to Syria to be honest.

  18. Why not let ISIS build their Caliphate. Then once they are all settled in and busy throwing gays off buildings and setting fire to people. Send in a few nukes and melt the lot of them. We'd have to accept some collateral damage but problem solved.

  19. While id try and stop people going and offer any moderate ones one last chance to leave Mr C makes a valid point as the extremist hardliners cant be reasoned with and want to wipe us off the map.
