Off to Italy in 3 weeks time for the factory/museum tour which is all booked, just looking for some tips or any advice about getting to the factory or any other info would be greatly appreciated, we will be traveling to bologna by train and staying there for 3 nights, can't wait!!!
I've got a tip:- poke the Mrs from time to time. AND.... Don't answer the phone while your ironing or count yer change over a drain...
Where are you staying? We were on bikes and stayed in a B&B a couple streets from the Museum so just rode there. I was on the Panigale so could park inside. Miss Pineapple was p*ssed as she had to park her Suzuki on the road outside haha! The factory tour is very interesting as well. I did a load of sneaky video but to be honest it was a waste of time as it's poor footage!
From Bologna City Centre its a number 13 bus to Borgo Panigale the stop is conveniently called Ducati. if its any help.
We stayed here: Hotel Porta San Mamolo (Bologna, Italy) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor Very nice too. We hired a taxi from the town centre to the factory and then back to the hotel from there (they will order you a taxi from the gatehouse on request) RB
The closest hotel to the factory is the Hotel del Borgo, where I stayed in 2011. It is a short walk. http://www.hoteldelborgo.it/
And the nicest restaurant we ate in during our own 3 day visit was this one: Home Though there are many other good ones around. We downloaded and printed a tourist map which gives you a loop of the most notable tourist attractions and places of interest. Useful to pick a few from if your time there is limited. RB
After you've done the factory tour turn right out the gates and walk a few hundred yards up the road to the large factory store and outlet. Take a look inside here... DUCATI FACTORY STORE - Google Maps
received verification of my tour date on 23 june. wsb in misano, ducati tour, maybe Ferrari......woo hoo.
The Ferrari museum in Maranello is worth a visit, but book in advance. If you turn up on spec you may have a long queue, or not get in at all.
pete I was at the maranello museum about five years ago and really enjoyed the visit.we went to ducati without booking ( had toured before without booking ) and were basically told to feck off, politely though lol, hence second best tour was Ferrari museum. we usually go see tavulia and san marino, and I believe there is now a simoncelli museum nearby .
Thank you for all tips and info about travel and places to stay etc... We've got a hotel already booked couple mins walk from the train station, so it's the bus or cab to the factory, will post a few pics on our return. Note to self.. Turn your phone off when ironing
Simoncelli museum is worth a visit, it's opposite the church where his service took place, and behind the museum on the field (no signs) is the latest memorial that was erected a couple of years ago
I had the pleasure of taking the factory tour in 2013 whilst on holiday - the museum is brilliant but the highlight for me was seeing where my Duc's (749s & 1098s at the time) were "born" (their words). Sounds strange but it was almost emotional. Soak it all up, it's a great experience.
