Yes to all the above how do I get to and check the coils ? Is it a tank off job if so can anyone give me a quick "how to" get the tank off please.

  2. How would I know if I have "servo start" as I'm not sure what that means.

  3. Hi Guv

You will have i think, based on model year. When you press the start, ca you just press it once for short while and it starts itself, rather than having to hold down the button till it fires? My explanation isn't great to be honest.

I'll come back to you later on the coils.

  4. Yep that's servo start. If you eliminate the air temp sensor then I'd wager it is a faulty clock set. The air temp sensor connects to the clocks and that transmits the temperature "value" to the ECU via the CAN bus. Make sure you check all the connectors for corrosion/moisture.

    This model is equipped with
    servo-assisted engine starting; to
    achieve servo-assisted starting,
press button (3) and then release it
    immediately.
When you press the button (3), the
    starter motor operates automatically
for a MAX time determined by the
    engine temperature. The system
    disengages the starter motor as
    soon as the engine starts.
If the engine fails to start, wait at
    least 2 seconds before pressing
    the start button (3) again.

  5. Hi Both.

In that case then yes I do have servo start, it comes in handy sometimes when you can just walk away and leave it starting on its own.

Well the ride home was easy and fault free, had the bike in my little cubbyhole at work, 05:00 started it up for ride home Air temp gauge showing 20c by the time I had got onto the dual carriageway (1 min ride) the air temp had dropped to 10c got on the Dual carriageway opened it up, faultless all the way home temp did drop to 7c for the rest of the ride home.

Picked up my new Air Tempture sensor today I'm tempted not to replace it until I have got at the coils and given all the electrical connectors a good once over, thinking about it I have it now so I might as well put it in and try it before I rip the tank off (not looking forward to that) you never know I might be lucky, but the more I think about it the more I'm thinking that the sensor that I have in there seems to be sending the correct signals to the clock/ECU so I'll be very surprised if its that, I never knew about there being a gauge on the clocks until after I had ordered a new one.

Can anyone confirm if you (as said earlier in this Thread) can in fact call up the engine management fault codes on the bikes clock ? I mentioned this at Ducati Cardiff and he said I couldn’t !!

This is becoming an epic Post.

  6. You can only call up the fault codes if the EOBD light is showing on the dash.

To see any stored codes in the ECU you need diagnostic software.

  7. I've found that running the engine at idle for some time brings up the engine management light - presumably because the ecu is receiving no input from the rear-wheel sensor.
Will this enable the fault codes to be viewed?

  8. It has to be on when ignition on (engine not running)

  9. Latest update.

It’s working perfectly thanks to Rich at “Louigi Moto” in Bristol, I took it to him after talking to Riders/Ducati in Cardiff, I wasn’t to impressed with them when I found out they didn’t even have a rolling road in the workshop, so the guy there gave me the phone number for Roston in Rodgit, and a person called Chris in Bristol that deals with ecu’s Re-Mapping and things like that, well it has been to Roston’s twice now and he couldn’t find the problem and fair do’s to him he never charged me the second time as he still couldn’t find nothing wrong with it, but he did advise me that he could fit a power commander that would sort the problem out, but I didn’t just want to find a way around the problem so he adjusted things to make it ride a bit better, at the end of the day the problem was still there.
I gave this Chris in Bristol a ring and he only Re-Maps ECU’s so he passed me onto Richard next door the man that would do a diagnostics check for me, took it to him and left it with him saying; “I’ll fix it” and you know what I believed him after only talking about the problems I was having with the bike, anyway after a week I phoned him and back came the reply I’ve been waiting to hear “It’s fixed” having said that and before I had chance to say anything he said.
I thought easy fix I’ll run a 100% diagnostics check find the fault and fix it, but nothing showed up as being wrong, according to the diagnostics machine it should have been running fine, but obviously it wasn’t so he started from scratch, this is what he found/fixed.
Compression test V High, V&H14.5 Bar if that means anything to anyone.
Strip and serviced the petrol tank, needed new filter o ring etc.
    2 new spark plugs.
Checked cam timing and adjusted to correct settings.
Changed the fuel set up as it was running V lean & out of balance.
Drilled out one of two sensors I'm not sure what they did but replaced with new.
Plus a load of other things and he did say the suspension geometry set up was all to hell but that didn’t affect the running only the handling (to me I thought it was handling fantastic Doh!!) so I will be taking it back for him to sort out for me one day soon.
All and all result at last, as soon as he started it up for me I knew it was fixed, as it sounded like a different Bike, I left it for a day or two before I phoned him up to let him know how it was running, he said “nice one just proving that lots of little faults add up to a sick bike regardless of what the diagnostic machine says” I can’t wait to get out on it again at every opportunity I have as it use to be.
100% recommend this place wish I had found it sooner I’ve wasted most of the little summer we have without my bike.
