1098 1098s Slow To Turn?

  1. whilst all the various responses are not wrong, there is one thing that will substantially assist the turning in and agility of the 1098 and 1198 various models. it is something that very few people know about in the UK and instead they focus a little too much on apparent suspension woes. these models steering geometry were designed for stability at the expense of flickability/agility and it is all to do with fork offset and trail. you need to buy some 30mm offset triple clamps/yokes generally only available in the USA. these change the whole bikes steering input. a few years ago i sold my 1098s tricolore as i thought that the steering was sooooooo poor, even after the fork piston kit, ohlins ttx etc etc etc. little did i know at that time that a new set of yokes would have done the trick. needless to say, my now 1198s has these triple clamps.
     
  2. Yes is you just lift the ride height you lose all your trail, with the offset triple you get the trail back. I use the IMC adjustable triples which I have currently set at 28mm. giving me about 105mm trail with the rear set at 140.

  3. Those forks are a long way thru, you ride that on track? Any issues wih rad fouling?

Yeah only on the oil cooled cover as I have modified the rad bracket, but it is too close (<10mm stationary with forks bottomed) so I have since backed the fork off a bit and raised the rear to compensate to give me some more clearance both on the Rad and cornering and increase swingarm angle.

    And yes 90% of my riding is on the track. But since I binned it yesterday I will be having a few months off :(
