Alien Isolation, My Say On The Game (spoiler Alert)

  1. Ok, just completed this game on medium difficulty on xbox one and my god it's a long haul, honestly I think I would fair better in real life against this thing haha. That said you certainly get your monies worth and the Nostromo edition extra DLC is kinda sweet too, characters are really well done.

Back story in short, well you play as Amanda Ripley the daughter of Ellen Ripley, you are an Engineer that goes to investigate the Sevasterpol Space Station, I bet you can guess the rest.

I think this game is rather well done, the ambient, background noises and dark lit areas really make you feel connected with the game. You don't only have the thing chasing you but synthetics (androids) too and they are creepy and this coupled with the fact that they take some beating makes for either a steathly bit of play, tactics or you going head on but be warned, ammo and supplies are scarce!

The controls are ok, not too clumsly and it isn't long before you master it, you can craft certain weapons along the way when you collect item pickups, like pipe bombs and noise making devices that you can use to distract the alien or other foes. You pick up a revolver, stun baton and shotgun but ammo isn't plentiful and don't expect these weapons to do any damage to the alien, I found that only the flamethrower worked to give you that few seconds to run and hide because you can't kill it!

The jump scares are pretty good, always accompanied by loud ass scary background music and when that thing moves it moves fast and the thudding steps it makes only to remind you of impending death, it's also random when it appears and its movement is unpredictable, you can hide and use the dark environment to your advantage so get used to slowly making progress through this game.

Midway through the game you do manage to eject it from the ship but this is midway, so by this time you maybe figured that it's either coming back or indeed more than one alien is on the ship, or maybe you might think the game is over.

Well it isnt and for two hours or so you get a break, this I feel really does split the game up and works well. You later discover that more aliens are nested in the ships reactor and from this point it's a race for survival and getting off the ship before it gets pulled into the no return point of a gas giant planet.

I'm not going to further comment on the remainder of this game but I will say it's well worth the time to sit down and play, further to this experience if you have connect set up you with need to keep quiet as too much noise in your room may alert the barstewered haha

Ok so the not so fun bits....

It's a bit frustrating at times and after a few hours of play the predictability of unlocking doors and restoring power becomes stale, though the game is long and you do get a mix of objectives throughout.

I do think that the break from the alien for about two hours gives Ripley time to recover from sore knees (woof!) but no, you do spend a ton of time making baby steps crawling around trying to avoid the alien that when you finally do stand you then feel like a giant and even I get vertigo.

It gets predictable and you die a LOT, I feel that they missed out on the best jump scare ever but instead went for the shock that more aliens are onboard the ship and I would had liked to go one on one with at least one alien but it never happens!

In short I rate it 7.9/10, it's a very good game and the visuals are top notch, fire damaged areas look pretty awsome and the space walk bits do feel well worked.
