anyone here do it? Missus will never notice, look like a mountain bike I'm going to get a cheap 250 or something similar (NOT a big DR650!) and spend some summer time doing what I have wanted to have a proper crack at for 20 years, all part of the move to the country experience Also as I have a van an wales isnt far will be interetsted in some of that! All pointers welcome...before I hit the TRF and adventure bike forums!
I do a bit Bradders. Go for something light with an electric start and a kickstart. Some TRF groups can be a bit cliquey or anorak-ish but not a bad place to start if you don't have anyone else to ride with - best not to do it solo.
I have done it years ago, great fun though more in a 4x4, than a bike, and a quad bike too, trouble is now days a lot of the green lanes have disappeared
Yep, I do green lanin every day, Farmers around here just leave the field on the road. Yep, green lane tomorrow, hopefully it rains and it will be more fun.
I've got a little Yamaha Dt125 92 plate with power valve that is excellent for green laneing, road legal, and light weight. Did loads on it when I lived in Northampton.
Did loads of it when i was younger , tho being in scotland there was no need to keep to any lanes / tracks as there was plenty of open hillside to play on ,,, only advice would be to get something light as pushing and lifting can be hard work , oh and n carrry spares like chain link puncture repair and dont go solo .
Finding the green lanes / BOATS seems to be the issue from my point of view. I really fancy it but and have for a long while but would want to do it in at least a vaguely legal manner....
Get a mountain bike, the trails around there are superb and it will keep you a lot fitter than green laning...
I'm offroading loads at the moment. What started as a KTM supermoto that blew the engine after two days, turned into an enduro for me and Miss Pineapple and now a trials bike as well. It's great skills and fitness training, definately the place to learn to wheelie!! I did a few cracking greenlaning days with Drinky off here and a bunch of guys who know the lanes like the back of their hands especially from Newbury down to 10-20 miles south of Alton. I've avoided the TRF as they seem a little two 'civilised' but they do a great job protecting the lanes. OMCC run events on the military training spots every month which are really good for getting up to speed. We're up at Slab Common on Sunday, they also have club bikes for hire although they seem tough to manage to get on as they are popular.
