well, the lovely weather tempted me out today, but not with great results. i was half way through a spirited ride and accelerating in about 4th, 7-8k rpm it just stopped like id hit a kill switch. I whipped the clutch in and coasted to a stop. I rocked it back onto compression (gently ) to see if the motor would turn and it did as normal, turning as far as getting to compression. i then got neutral and touched the starter butting for a second. i hated doing this, but if its already broken then it wouldn't do more harm than WOT at 7-8k would of done 30 seconds earlier. anyway, seemed to turn over as usual, not spinning too fast like its not against compression, and nothing sounding too horrible. as i said, only turned her over for a second or 2, now its time to get covers off and start digging. I'm hoping that somehow its a switch or something daft, but ill start with looking at the belts so i can spot any horrific costs early on.......... wish me luck and ill keep you up to date.

Mine did this on the start finish straight at Portimao 3 weeks back... I was out of fuel.... damn race tanks with foam and no sender unit in it !
Fuel injection relay???? The one that usually lives behind the battery box. It seems to be the cause of many an issue. Mine stopped the same as yours, my EOBD light came on as well. A new relay cured it.

A new relay cured it also rapped tit in self amalgamating tape to weather seal it. they cost about 3.99 quid. Mind the battery box can be fiddly to get off due to screw location but not a hard job in all
well, what a muppet...........a simple solution one of the electrical connectors, Next to the battery box/gear pedal area just unplugged itself!! the big noises from the motor, must of been the induction noise with no spark, but sounded horrible!! checked the cylinders (through plug hole) for any sign of damage and nothing, then thought ill check the wiring , then spotted the damn thing. plugged back in and one touch of the button and its alive again. i guess the horrible noises were all in my head, natural panic sets in when a big motor just stops...... thanks for all the advice guys, i always wanted it to be electrical, just lucky this time i guess!
The idea that all Ducatis are unreliable cement mixers seems to be a common held belief. Some of my riceburner riding buddies still take the crap out of my choice of bike. Now though, it`s only lighthearted banter. They know the truth. My `93 900ss never missed a beat touring France and then Germany. I posted this quote on another thread but, I do so like retelling it. Glad it was a simple fix Steve. If it hasn`t been done, I`d still advice moving the fuel injection relay to a more accessible place. That non Ducati part does seem to cause a lot of problems.
