1200 DVT Not A Good Start

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by fatfingers73, May 5, 2015.

  1. Tried to collect my DVT on Saturday. Unfortunately while I was being shown all the controls it showed a steering lock error that wouldn't clear.

Having to slum it on a 2014 dair now until the new part arrives.

  2. ..not fair! I'd be gutted & semi-livid..

  3. Better to happen there than in Scotland where I'm off to in a couple of weeks.

At least I get a good test of the old model.

  5. A "steering lock error" ... really? Wow. WTF is that? Why on earth (no pun intended) do you need electronics to be involved in a steering lock? Can a Mutley owner enlighten me?

  6. Agree. Too much complication and thus potential for failure.
Best stick with the analogue stuff.

  7. The steering lock is engaged electronically by keeping the starter button cover held down....IIRC.

  8. The steering lock is engaged by holding the key on and key off button for few seconds, untill there is a message steering lock activated, on that button there is a picture of a lock :)

  9. the one thing on my bike I will never use.

  10. There is a section in the new manual telling you how to overide the lock with a pin number.

  11. Can't say I have ever used the steering lock, or ever will

  12. Sounding like that is most definitely a thing to know and keep hidden somewhere. Possibly in the liner of my lid as I wouldn't usually carry instructions around. Surely the guy in the dealers would have known that you can override with the pin?

  13. I keep things like this on my phone and on Dropbox so I know I can pick them up anyware. I have the whole manual on Dropbox as you never know when you will need it.

There are all sorts of quirks in the manual:
The front and rear brakes do not use separate control systems: the ABS on this bike provides for a combined braking action that connects the rear brake system to the front one when the rider uses only the front brake. The contrary is not true: the rear brake control will not affect the front brake. If desired, the system can be deactivated from the instrument panel, setting the level to OFF within the Riding Mode for which you wish to disable it.

    Hi-jacked thread.......

  14. Maybe just stick with mechanical and avoid progress altogether ?

  15. I've been told the part should be with them tomorrow. Will hopefully have another go at collecting it on Saturday.

They're trying to get ducati to agree to a goodwill gesture. Fingers crossed.

  16. Am I missing something? They're trying to get Ducati to agree it as a goodwill gesture... On a brand new DVT?

It would never have even crossed my mind that they wouldn't FOC it.

  17. Steering Lock Error on the first day of ownership - reminds me of my 2010 Multistrada which had a "Hands Free Error" and the steering lock pin wouldn't retract, on the first morning after picking the bike up. After trying various things I had to get the bike dragged onto a low loader so it could be returned to the dealers. Then had to wait for a week for a replacement Hands Free Unit.

Maybe I'll try the steering lock on my new DVT model before I ride it away from the dealers :)

  19. I think he means something additional to the new part replaced under warranty.

  20. Can I ask, if you don't use the steering lock, what do you use? are you carrying a chain around all the time?
    just wondering, that's all :)
