899 F*****g Baffles

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by triari, May 1, 2015.

  1. Fitted the baffles for the first time tonight, blimey something that looks so simple has turned into a right pain. Tighter than a nuns chuff for a start and then getting the holes aligned has taken skin of my knuckles and turned the air blue!
    Rant over.

  2. Why fit them !

  3. Had the same with my Monster, literally had to hammer them in. Then made the rookie mistake of thinking 'they're not going anywhere' so didn't put the screws in. They blew out somewhere on the Mendips. Didn't bother to replace them. Don't tend to get other bikes following too close :)

  4. Track day Wednesday at Brands, have been told it'll fail the drive by without them.
Rather them not be fitted but needs must.

  5. Good idea to use a file to smooth off the burrs, then you should hopefully find they will fit much easier.
Use a small cross head screwdriver to align the bolt holes.

  6. Ended up using white grease, toffee hammer and a bit of rim tape to mark where the holes were.
Didn't think to use files :(

  7. Baffles? I m guessing you run termis? I ve tried looking for baffles for my standard system as I don't want any head aches at my next track day but no one does any

  8. Yes termis, have ridden the bike today with the baffles in and it's so quiet. Still, they work I guess.
Had akrapovic on the old bike and the baffles were a doddle to fit.

  9. I have to have it for the name alone! :)

  10. Bastard is a standard engineering term for files. It refers to the aggressiveness of the cut of the file. Bastard is particularly rough.

  11. That's just killed any humour stone dead then...

  12. Glad to see I'm not the only one with problems with the baffles; tried twice now with my 1199 and given up both times as i couldn't get the bolts in once fitted. hoping to use it at Cadwell this coming Saturday so will now have another attempt as I had convinced myself they were for show, not go!

  13. Spend some time with a file Istanbulion. In my experience they are piss poorly finished and removing the rough edges should ensure an easy fit and the holes should line up to enable fittment of 5mm cap head bolt.
Don't make the same mistake as me when you have fitted them!
I failed to tighten the bolt properly and lost one of them.

  14. They are in! With the help of a rubber mallet and a brass drift. Let's see if it passes the ride-by now at Cadwell

  15. Wait till you have to get them out! I found it harder then getting the bloody things in!!!!
