Hi Guys, Having been told by numerous people to change the rear setting on my 1199s from F to P, I want to give it a go. I find the bike ridiculously hard. What I want to know.. is a job that I can do myself? Im pretty handy on the spanners but didnt want to go at it, and then realise half way through that I'm goosed. Do i need any specialist tools , stands etc?? Anyone have a link or a step by step on how tom do it? Im after getting setting from someone on here that is the same weight on the same bike so hopefully help me out comfort wise! Cheers guys
Don't bother messing around with the jacks just pick the back end of the bike up and get the missus to slide a chock of wood, books etc (covered with something soft eg. A towel) under the bike and sit it on the exhausts elevating the back end of the bike so the rear wheel is off the ground and free to move up and down once you disconnect the linkage.
Not in itself a bad idea but all that weight bearing on the exhaust cans is not something I would risk. Saw an 1199 on an Italian forum that was raised that way and the left hand can was deformed. Why not just place a bar through the rear subframe and jack it up?
i said this last time..... i basically use p setting, so theres less chance of bottoming out. on flat setting, big yumps can compress the spring too much. 2 up could be dangerous. even at 13 stone, i needed to remove 1 full turn of preload off the rear shock to get decent sag. I have use my 'race' setting, with 'road' display but with compression and rebound based only slightly more damped than wet settings, power is set at 195hi, and my sport setting is wet damping settings (but two notches up on damping and rebound on rear shock), but with 195lo, these give me the best settings for average, and good surfaced roads. Standard sport and race settings are far too harsh for road riding. but im still playing, u need to until your happy.
Well hello again.... please forgive my noobness on this but playing with suspension is new to me. I want to get this bike set up as best I can. I have changed the rear linkage from F to P and now Im going to set up sag.... So.. Im assuming the rear can be adjusted by turning the lock ring on the shock in/out with a C spanner.. This Im sure ill manage. However, where can I adjust the front forks in order to adjust the sag?? Im about 11 stone... The settings I was going to use as a base are: FC:18 FR: 12 RC:21 RR: 18 Anyone have any idea of what sag I should be looking for? I know everybody is different... All I.m looking for is some decent setting for bumpy Irish roads. Although in 4 weeks I'll be at the TT. I know this thread has been on here already and I apologise for adding another one but my dream of finally owning a Ducati is starting to turn sour. The bike just squirms and hops and skips along roads, even main roads!!! Please help...
dont worry, its all sortable. its 50% suspension, and 50% too hard tyre pressures. you need to make some small changes, one at a time to find your preferred ride. I run tyres at 30psi fr and 34 rear. You need to get some sag, remove some preload on the rear, one full turn is about right fora starting point, use proper tool. Leave the forks for now, they are ok. Ducati 1199 Panigale Maintenance Tool Set Chain/Front-Rear Wheel/Headset /Fork | eBay You must use P on the rear linkage. Its an easy job. Try these settings, save them in your Sport mode. You can mirror the settings to your race setting, and alter the values by 2 (either way) then toggle between the two to find the best ride. Just remember to change the race display to road on your race setting. Front Compression - 28 Front Rebound - 13 Rear Compression - 28 Rear Rebound - 13 Good luck!
