Hi Just Joined, Already had some info from Chris thought I'd put this out to everyone to get as much info and advice as possible. Couple of years ago decided I was going to build myself a Cafe style thing, wanted an air cooled V so bought a 600SS with a superbike frame, tank and some other bits and a 900 monster with SSSA conversion both non runners both in very poor condition. Got the 600 running see here "" ran ok, sounded good obligatory rattle on front cylinder till it was warm but seemed Ok although I haven't ridden it. Anyway it's been in the shed since then, at least a year just pulled it out again and the will not run without choke backfiring and spitting through carbs so they'll have to come off again. My question..... Rather than mess around anymore with the 600 I thought I'd start on the 900 engine It didn't come with any cdi boxes, I know the 600s are the same so I could plug those in and try fire it up. Is there anything I should take special care with as I don't want to up the boxes any advice much appreciated as thes are the first Italians I've been around. Thanks
Finally got the carbs off and stripped. It has 148 (Looks non Mikuni) main jets, 37.5 pilots, 70 air jet or starter jet not sure. Needles and springs look non standard and there is a small washer (see pics) on plastic retainer on springfor some reason??, and its had somthing go down through them at some point by the dinks and minor marks. Oh and the bottom of the slides have been beveled on the intake side, running open carbs with rubber trumpets no filters. Looks like someone did a fair bit of work to it at some point, it was in a very sorry state when I got it wouldnt run at all. Havnt got much spare time but hope to get it sorted soon.
