  1. I had never heard of him until they lost the election. Its a shame really as we could have had the first PM, whose first name has a mild reference to vomiting. He also came across as a very reasonable person, unlike the knob who just left !

  2. Saw all the candidates on "This Week" last night - to be honest, they all sounded exactly the same...
And they all said exactly the opposite of what they were saying two weeks ago.

  3. Call me a cynic, but has he just remembered 'that skeleton in the closet' he had forgotten about?

  4. That's an interesting example. When we talk about racism we often assume that you're either one or the other: a racist or not a racist. Mainly because that is easier to understand. But it's much more subtle than that: in many cases it's just a side-effect of our inability to adjust as the times change around us, which they always do, and always will.

I'm sure you're not 'A RACIST' in the sense of an active, bigoted hater of people who have a different cultural background to yourself, but saying that someone with an un-English-sounding name being Prime Minister is 'not quite right' is close to a racist attitude, depending on what you meant?

It might also seem 'not quite right' for a potential PM to be called 'Gilbert Titwank', but that's not because of a perceived cultural difference - it's just a plain silly name.

To say that it's not quite right somehow because it 'sounds foreign' is - for me - bordering on racism. But that in itself doesn't make you a racist, it just means you should have a good word with yourself... ;)

  5. What, the self styled British Barack Obama has quit ? Pity. He was completely unelectable. Just what Labour needed.

  6. I don't see the OP as racist at all unless it’s racist to say that you prefer your own country over all others and like the institutions of your country to reflect to reflect the countries heritage. That is normally referred to as national pride or patriotism and is something we could do with more of

  7. Think its suddenly dawned on him he might have been on a loser. What would he have as leader, divided left/centrist party, no real identity. 5 years of losing votes to a tory majority. An impossible rebuilding job in Scotland. He'll only get 1 chance to be leader and now will tarnish him forever. He's decided to keep his powder dry and fight another day when it might be worth being leader. Gutless bastard.

  9. Had to look him up, his father was Nigerian and mother English/Irish. If you didn't google him you would never guess his middle name !

  10. I think he'd sooner take over from Boris as Mayor. But he still wouldn't get my vote..

  11. Is it Gilbert Titwank?

  14. I don't think Sturgeon is a naturally Scottish name, they don't seem to object.

  15. I reckon it's "Nother"

  16. Sturgeon is actually an abbreviation.
Her original surname was "Bottomfeedingsiltswallower" but a focus group decided the electorate wouldn't go for it.

  17. There's noting at all racist inthat sentance. Your attempt to paint it as racist and condescending tone shows more about the need for you to have a word with yourself I'm afraid.

  18. I have to come down on domRusty's "side" here. I thought Richard's post was unconsciously racist, in that he demonstrated an expectation of who is "British enough" to be Prime Minister, based solely on the individual's name.

The OP was not a "hate crime", it doesn't deserve scorn or condemnation, but it does show an apparent attitude on the part of the poster that he himself may be unaware of. It's on this basis that the poster needs to think about his motivations and attitudes.

This is all my opinion - obviously - and I respect that fact that others feel differently. I genuinely do not want to start a bun-fight over this, it's just me stating my thoughts on the debate we are having here. I'm not having a pop, honest!
